Detail shop it is. They’ve handled some pretty gnarly stuff for me before. They can blend stuff like crazy. Don’t need to do the whole truck. $20-60 will get it done depending on where you live.

Question, did you do a thorough wash and decontaminate before you tried to work the scratch? If not, you may have slightly abraded the worked area with contaminants that were already present, OR you might have just essentially deconned the area you are seeing as "lighter." If you've never used something like iron x or a clay bar before this point, I would lean toward that area just being the cleanest part of your truck and you see it because the rest of it has contaminants.

I'm confused. @Mully only posted one pic, and it's just of the scratch. Where is this second pic after buffing?

There's only one pic from him. There is no second pic. He is not the OP. He only posted the pic you quoted and it's only one picture of a scratch on his door. Where are you seeing a second pic?

Oh jeez, last time we saw one of these it went from burnt paint to dried wax.

Nobody can tell a fucking thing from a photo like that.

No offense but Tacoma owners must be the worst OCD people in the world.

I can see the color difference he is talking about. It's not particularly bad in the pic, but it's also not hard to see. If you can't see it you might be one of the 1 in 12 men that have some form of colorblindness. Or just need a prescription refresh. IDK, but certainly not worth spiking your BP over it.

    I would ignore it.

Back when my 2nd gen was only 6 months old, I went to Walmart and after putting all the stuff from my cart in my truck I pushed the shopping cart away from my truck. When I drove off, I heard this screeching noise on the side of my truck. I get out and lo and behold the shopping cart must have rolled back and due to the angle the cart must have stopped at next to my truck, caused a deep scratch from the passenger rear door all the way to the tailgate. I tried for 3 days to minimize the damage of the scratch, but then gave up. When you looked at it from a certain angle you could clearly see the scratch, but other angles you couldn’t. After a few weeks I stopped noticing it, and went on to enjoy another 12 trouble free years with the truck.

So lessons I learned, always put your shopping carts into the cart corral and let these minor things go or it’ll eat you alive.

If a light scratch the op can try some plastic polish like mothers, and rub out that scratch, and clear coat area that appears messed up.

Lots. The mods are constantly having to clean up the BST section from fluffers.

My first big scratch(es) was a doozy. I was attempting to bolt an awning to my roof rack and accidentally dropped it from the rear. The rear steel bracket on the awning went all the way to the ground and I managed to scratch the top section near the rear window, the entire side door, and the bottom panel. We’re not talking light clear coat scratches, these were full paint removing deep scratches. I know I know it’s a truck blah blah but I was a solid mix of pissed off at myself and sad.

I ended up getting the full Dr Colorchip kit, and while it’s not as good as a full repaint, I would say it’s 85% covered up. Can still see it if you get close but 4 feet away it’s invisible. I Followed the directions to the tee and took a whole afternoon and did many many coats of application and buffing. I think it was like 7 or 8 coats if I remember correctly. If you want perfect pay a body shop to do it.
