Yea, perks of living in rural PA I guess

I've been adding separate electric circuits this summer to facilitate the oil filled electric heaters. Still have one more to go, but ran outta wire. Yes my electric bill will go up, buy it will be more spread out over the winter. $200 in a month is better than $500+...

Next year I'm going to adjust and replace the nozzle in the furnace. It has a 1.25gph nozzle in it now, but if you size it correctly for my house you only need a .75gph. My hot water no longer goes through there so I pulled a wire in the control and disabled the low temp cut on. Now it will only fire when one of the zone valves calls for heat.

Oh so your furnace is sized for a larger house. Hopefully the smaller nozzle makes a difference. :fistbump:

Oil companies like to do that so you use more fuel. I took out the nozzle head and seen that just to laugh and shake my head.

Maybe you could consider putting a pellet stove in your basement?
I heat with that now primarily.
Surprisingly, the price of wood pellets has gone up hardly at all.
I burn about 3 1/2 tons over an average Winter, and it's a big house.

For many years I heated with firewood (cut and split by me).
Getting too old and tired for that now, though I maintain 4 cords for emergency backup.

Since I have the land, I've been thinking about going to an outside wood fired boiler. I can use the same lines as my current oil fired boiler system. My boiler is a couple years away from being replaced, so I'm gonna start researching options.

They're putting gas lines along 75, so I'm hoping they decide to do the same thing along Buchanan Trail here.
