Hey folks, hopefully this is an acceptable post. I'm looking for budget friendly ideas to get some power to the bed. I want to power the following:
    • 5kW Diesel heater
    • Fridge
    • LED strip lights
    • Charge headlamps/phone
I've done a bunch of forum scouring, and have yet to discover a solid answer. It seems like there are a couple options; dual battery setup, house battery in the bed, or simply a line to a 12V outlet or two, with a booster pack in case you drain your battery.

I'm curious what other others have done, what you would do differently given the chance, and what is a realistic budget.

For reference, I do a 60/40 split of fair/cold weather camping here in Canada, not usually out for more than 3 nights.

    Thanks for your time!

The most affordable solution for me was the Dometic power panel. The two prong DC plug for the fridge and a DC power port. Wired to the battery.

I'm not sure how much draw the heater needs, but I don't want to mess with a dual battery setup myself. The fridge has ran for two days on a standard Group 24F battery with no issues. It also powers my LED strip mood lighting when needed.

Ignore the extra hole. Cut twice, measure once is how I roll.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Circuit breaker under the hood off the battery to an Egis PDM14 in the bed.

has low voltage protection, 14 circuits in three banks that can all be set to ignition, timed, or 24hr sections.

Obviously run a heavy enough gauge to power everything +10%

The low voltage protection ensures you don't kill your starter battery? Eg automatically turns off the breaker when the voltage drops low enough?

Getting mixed answers from my research whether or not running a panel off the starter battery is a good idea or not.

yes, low voltage protection protects starting battery.

Egis makes amazing products, and most of them here in the states.

There is nothing wrong with running off your starting battery so long as you have protection on it. The PDM-14 will provide that.

they also have a dual battery relay/isolator with low voltage cut off for the secondary battery, which is an option too.
