How hard is it to install a trailer brake system for the Tacoma?

What trim do you have? Usually, there's a plug behind the left kick panel and it's super easy. I have a Tekonsha, others swear by Redarc because it looks closer to stock.

    Easy.

The hardest part is finding the connector hidden behind the kick panel. They really bury it back there.

After that it's plug and play with virtually all the major brands of controllers.

***With the right adapter harness of course. Separate purchase may be necessary.

Hardest part is deciding where to put the controller.

I HATE PEOPLE THAT PUT THEM OVER THE OBD PORT. also my long legs hit it on the way in

Mines not over the port, but several shop techs have complained about bashing their shins. My shins are longer than most and I don't bash it. Guess I'm weird.

Understood. My dog doesn't hate anyone. I however hate everyone. Especially people. Those bastards.

The entire system? or just the controller?

If it is the system, wires and all, it took me about 4 hours on a 2.7L. There is a grommet under the drivers seat that makes passing wires forward to the firewall or lower dashboard easy. Then a flat four adaptor at the rear drivers side taillight and then to the bargeman 7 pin round plug.

2022 Taco should have towing package on all 4x4 trims if I remember correctly and on the TRD trims of 2x4's. Shouldn't take you more than 15-20 minutes if it's already wired for it. Highly recommend redarc brake controller for how OEM it looks. Red dial on bottom right:20220505_224200.jpg

I put a T2 into a 2019 Sport in about 20 minutes, it was the third time I’ve done one though..

    easy peasy.
