It's big, it's heavy, it's electric truck. Every wants electric truck. Come get your electric truck today.

Yeah a compact lightweight electric pick up would make the most sense.
You can get a nice Tacoma for the price of the budget friendly EVs. Different vehicles for different purpose

Lightweight EVs are still a ways out. Consider the Audi Q8 and the Audi E-tron - dimensionally almost the same SUV but the e-tron weighs 1000lbs more. In other words, an electric Maverick sized truck would likely weigh more than a Tacoma even though it is a smaller truck.

I don’t but I would use the bed for bikes, kayaks, coolers of fish and other things I don’t want inside the vehicle.

No credit card required if you are still under warranty, the service is free under Tesla's included road side assistance program.

Perhaps take a reality check. The ZF 8spd is widely regarded as one of the best transmissions of all time, used in numerous supercars including the Toyota Supra. I'd hardly call one of the best transmissions of all time that Toyota selected for its highest performance car "sucking". Educate yourself:

That’s one transmission though. The Toyota transmissions are kinda dated but they just work ‍♂️

The Toyota 6spd transmission is sub-par in its implementation yes. Toyota's use of the ZF 8spd in other implementations excels. The Gladiator also runs the ZF 8spd, and in that platform it is fantastic for an off road truck. There is no reason Toyota couldn't employ it in the Tacoma as well.

Edit: maybe you didn't realize most manufactures source transmissions from the same place? The ZF 8spd is one of the most widely adopted and utilized transmissions on the market. So yeah, it is "just one", but it just happens to be one of the most dominate transmissions that are used by so many makes and models because of its engineering superiority. So don't let the "only one" numbers fool you.

I hate to admit it, but having an EV for a second or 3rd vehicle could have its advantages. I have no interest in an EV as my only vehicle though. I do like the Rivian R1S (SUV) as an option, but I'll bet Tesla has the upper hand on tech features.

As far as the 6spd auto in the Tacoma, I've noticed the TRD catback has substantially improved the driving/power/shifting characteristics on my 2017.

You missed the part about primitive. These are sites where you haul your own water in, take your own poop back out. I saw the sites where the guy was staying. He wasn't plugging in at night. There's nothing to plug into out there. He must have found a station along the road, but I didn't see any of those either. However he did it, I'm impressed.

My camper was getting it's juice from solar, but that's easy when the battery bank is only 120 Ah.

Well he charged before he got to the site or charged nearby before he camped.

There’s a few options for level 2 charging around there. I’d assume he topped off full in Van Horn or Stockton which would get you to Big Bend at about 50% battery.

I'm mildly curious how he did it. I see one tesla charger in Marfa, and another EV charger in Ojinaga, Mex. The Marfa one would have been a 250 mile round-trip from where I saw him last. After that, the only charge points I see are in RV parks. I kind of regret not going to talk to the guy, but was busy socializing with others whenever I saw him.
