For those following along at home, I got it. I got the end of the hose plugged as best I could and have the lever a quick, hard shot and the barb and olive came out.

    not enough.
depends on the barb fitting. the sram ones can get unscrewed. others, just take a knife and open up the old housing.

Keep me posted if it becomes an issue. We’ll work something out.

I bought that whole new take-off kit and never looked at everything in detail. Just a glance to verify it was all there and the overall condition.

I appreciate that! I got it out, trying to grab it with the needle nose pliers, I noticed I had mostly closed up the end of the hose. I gave the lever a quick shot and the barb shot out. Worked out alright in the end, got the line trimmed, new barb and olive installed and the system is back in business

If it comes with a spring, that’s a pretty good deal. Fox Dhx2 + sls spring is about $800 and that won’t be tuned for your bike/riding/weight

Fair question because I've often wondered the same thing - especially the online raffles. For AMBC we print all the names and dump them into a cement mixer to pick out the winner in-person

Went for a ride this weekend on some pretty fast flowy XC trails - guy I was with has a lot more ride time over the years than I do and it shows. Fitness wise I can stay on him, and maybe have a slight edge on extended climbs, but on downhill he pulls away. The most noticeable difference I saw was in cornering; I'm still a bit anxious in flat corners expecting a front tire washout so I would drag the brakes prior to a turn, but watching him lean the bike and really push through it was eye opening.

He was able to carry momentum through a corner and use that momentum to carry up a climb or only have to put minimal power down to maintain trail speed. I would slow down, go through a corner, and then have to really put some effort in to getting back up to trail speed. I keep watching all these youtube videos on how to corner better, but seem to forget everything when breathing hard and riding. Going to try and set up some cones soon (let the kid work through them as well) and pretend I am in my motorcycle training course again.

I've been racing road for my entire life, and can rail a corner just fine, but when I finally bought a mountain bike after not really riding trails since I was a kid I had to learn to corner all over again. Maybe you've seen this one but it's my favourite video on cornering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y6ocZHpLoE

I still struggle with it a bit. The guys I ride with now have been racing XC for their entire lives, some at the World Cup level, so I'm always behind the 8-ball with them but still making improvements.

If you can follow that guy more, it'll help a ton!!!

I've been chasing two buddies for the past few years who are stupid fast descenders and I can finally hold their wheel(s) most of the time. There is something about following good riders that gives you the confidence to carry speed through corners.

Yeah... That guy has been riding for a long time. We follow him up a technical climb and end up getting as far as we can, then looking at him at the top like 'how the F did you get up there?'

The issue is, he rides with me most often and all I'm going to teach him is a poor line or the slowest way to get through something!
