If you've ever bought a lower with a serial number on it and filled out a 4473, you're already in the matrix.

Another option is via Palmetto state armory. They basically took the old nodak spider, bought the H&R stuff and have the owner of nodak spider making retro stuff under the H&R brands.

Still hard to get as he doesn't have a lot of access to machining but a lot cheaper than intlmilco (who does great work too). But, hard to get. Currently doing batches of around 100 per release and they sell out in minutes

The man knows where I live, he knows my annual income, he assigned me a cool looking number the day I turned 18, etc. I’ll just go ahead and file the Form 1 to be on the safe side.

True, I would imagine that NFA items would move you up the priority list though. No telling what kind of social credit score system they’re starting to implement with all of the data from phones and social media.

Rich guys have all machine guns, so I doubt NFA would be high on the priority list.

Perhaps I’m naive but I’m thinking that it’s common knowledge to them what folks have unless it was through a private sale or inheritance or something.

100%. The ATF has, for all intents and purposes, put together a database (even though statute prohibits them from doing so).

It’s likely that most firearms are registered federally, legally only NFA items are supposed to be registered at a federal level, but the feds have a back door registry built through trace requests to FFL’s as well as the standard 4473, and it’s likely that it’s also be supplemented by photos posted online where serial numbers are visible and the account can be easily traced back to a person.
Recently BATFE announced changes to the rules where old records that were able to be destroyed after a certain age (I believe 25 years) now must be sent to West Virginia for the ATF to hold.

Yep, and they aught to be shut down for it.

Absolutely. And the fact that there is a lawless registry is a reminder that the federal bureaucracy exists to serve itself, not you, the tax-paying citizen.

Got a pile of cabelas bucks saved and was thinking of getting an EOtech for myself. Cabela's seems to have 512, 518, 552 A65, 558, exps-2, xps2-0, exps3. Besides the 500s taking AA batteries, I'm having trouble seeing the differences between them. Does someone who knows more about this what to help me out?

Xps = no qd lever. Cr123 battery
    Exps = qd lever. Cr123

3-0,3-1,3-2...etc = 3 indicates 3 buttons so NV compatible. Second number says how many dots for a bdc hole.

2-0,2-1,2-2...etc = same concept as 3 but instead 2 buttons only so non-nv compatible.

Also IIRC the xps with no QD lever is absolute cowitness with irons and the exps with the QD is lower 1/3 cowitness.

Any reason to choose one with the cr123 battery beside the weight? I like the idea of using the common AA batteries instead of the harder to find cr123s

Ok. Thats not "common AA". And they cost just as much as CR123s......??

The logic behind some stuff escapes me.

But then so does the logic of buying eotech garbage in the first place.
