i'm trying to figure out what these 2 things are.

the most curious to me is #1. it appears to be a momentary switch which contacts the hood when closed, but it's not wired up and i can't find any evidence of it being wired.

no clue what #2 is. it could be an idiot sensor, but is it broken or working perfectly?? this guy certainly can't tell.

thanks, in advance, for any help!

Not sure what is going on here but the first picture is of the heater switch. It flows coolant I believe to the heater core when you turn to hot. The thing on top...no idea why the previous owner installed that.

The second item looks like a temp sensor that the previous owner installed. I assumed it has one wire going into it?

1 is definitely a remnant of an alarm system.

2 appears to be something also abandoned.

1 is a pin switch. When the hood opens, the switch grounds to the body and provides ground to something like lights or alarm.
I can't see 2 very clearly. Does it have a socket for a bulb? If so, it would have been wired to the pin switch as an engine bay light. If not and it is a solid end, it could be a tilt switch for a car alarm. Possibly a ball bearing type, when the hood opens, a ball bearing rolls to the back of the switch and completes the circuit between two contacts which sets off the alarm.

Yup #1 would usually be for an aftermarket alarm to tell it when the hood is open. Doesn't look like it's connected anymore. Never seen something like #2 before. Follow the wire & let us know. Proximity switch?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
looks to me it was a under hood light that was removed .

open the hood the switch closes the light turns on.

    Many vehicles have such lights

Looks like someone retrofitted an under hood light from a domestic. I’ve seen those things on GM and Ford products.

I could see that as being an under hood light. I didn't think it was cause that's a very poor location for the lamp if #2 is the bulb socket.

I would have put the switch on the side & the lamp towards the middle of the hood. Even on older American cars that had the under hood light, they were closer to the middle & still didn't do a good job at lighting.

If that is a bulb socket it's probably for a little incan bulb, would be useless for lighting in that location IMO.

My Datsun has one, but it’s got a long extension cord on it built in.

Those things fetch a lot of money on ebay. Only time I've ever seen one in person in the past 25+ yrs was at JCCS.

Those plunger switches (#1 pic) were a component of early remote start systems. The idea was to prevent someone from remote starting the engine while somebody else might be working on it....like in the area of the fan.

I have one, or maybe two laying in my garage. Pulled the last one from a mid 80's Datsun or Nissan pickup. I think I also pulled one from an older Jaguar that I was robbing the alternator from.

How much do they sell for on Ebay?

the thing on top is the item #1 i was curious about.

yeah it only has 1 wire going into it, and somebody ran it through the boot for the wiring harness. it might be tough to see in this photo, but it's the white wire circled below.1.2.jpg
