We'll see how this all turns out. Talking to the adjuster, he feels like it will likely get totaled, but he needs to see it first. Should have an answer by tomorrow or Wednesday. If they do total it, he said I'd have money before the end of the week. They just arranged for my rental car through Enterprise, so they are doing OK so far.

I dug around a bit yesterday and have a pretty good idea what the truck is worth, so I'll definitely fight if need be. Not sure about parts for sale yet, but someone has already asked about the stalk. If I do get it totaled and I do not buy another Tacoma, I'll sell what I have. I have Weathertech mats (gray), Scosche single DIN kit, cruise, some tool/flashlight holder I made, and an A.R.E. CX cap. Damn cap is only two weeks old and matches the factory Indigo Ink Pearl perfectly. Doh!

i'm really looking for a base model grille and bumper/.......did those survive the accident?

If you can at least get the grille(I know the rear bumber is a PITA), I'll trade u my chrome one for it or even pay some money if necessary

Damn, glad you're ok. I've been debating on whether or not to get a set of winter tires. I live in Vancouver, so I hate to fork out the cash when it only snows a couple times a year here , but I'm driving to Calgary for Christmas in a few weeks, and that Coquihalla and Rogers Pass can be quite icy.

Without 4wd, I would not hesitate to get snows. They can be worth their weight in gold!

Well, after reading your post, that's what I've been thinking. I'm kinda worried that they'll wear out too quickly on the wet (but not icy) pavement here, but definitely worth it.

Wao... Makes me think. I'm headed to that same road on my Taco next week. I'm glad you are OK and I hope they do total it. At the end of the day though, u are alive.

If the damage equals or exceeds 75% of the truck's book value,it's a total.
    Yours sounds like one.

glad to hear you're ok man. That does sound like a total to me too. The same thing pretty much happened to me at just about the same time. Except i was on 78 near Allentown. Hit some black ice on a bridge and ended up perpendicular to the road like half in the grass off the shoulder i got lucky no one was next to me though

wow. nice to know we drive safe vehicles. If they total it sounds to me like this is a good chance to get the new 2009 with the back up camera, led tail lights, and blacked out headlights not to mention all the added safety features :)

I heard from the insurance company today. They haven't made a decision yet, but it sounds like they are leaning towards fixing it. In all honesty, the truck is in great condition given the fact that it rolled almost twice at nearly 45 mph.

Here are the pics he sent me. Crappy qualtiy, but here they are nonetheless.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the condition of the vehicle and would not hesitate to buy another. That being said, the truck needs every piece of sheetmetal except for the tailgate. For God's sake, the truck only had 6500 miles on it! I am not comfortable with them fixing the A and B pillars, let alone welding a new roof on. Plus, in order to repair every body panel, the entire truck will need to be sprayed. Needless to say, I'm very skeptical of the potential outcome.

I am planning to head 150 miles down to the shop to meet with the adjuster in person so that everything gets accounted for. I HOPE they decide to total even though I love the truck. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to persuade them total??

    A few bolts are different.
strait talk the guy I know he's the insurance adjuster and has a job to do, but reason with him, he has probably had some wrecks in nice vehicles of his own too. It's kinda like they say in a job interview you kinda turn it into yourself interviewing the interviewer. thats kind of what your doing here to persuade the adjuster to total it.

    Update:

I drove down to meet the adjuster at the body shop on Thursday. Turns out the trip was worth my time. Luckily, my original adjuster was out of town, and the new adjuster was MUCH cooler about the situation. Long story short, we discussed the situation and when the bill rang up: TOTALED! Turns out the truck sustained about $19k of damage. Some of this was definitely a stretch, but he estimated OE sheetmetal and hardware right down to the info stickers.

All, in all, I made out pretty well. Paid off the truck and left me with a decent size check in my pocket. Thank you Toyota....for saving my life all while retaining value!

Great outcome to a tough situation. Do you at least have a rental to drive while you decide what to do next? Also, It's probably a good time to go truck shopping, you'll be able to get a good deal.

Yep, still have the rental, but only until Monday. Luckily, I am off of work (I guess you can say that?) for the next 23 days, so I'll have plenty of time to shop. Still not sure what I'm going to look for.

BUT, I did find a nice 05 TRD OR DB w/ 13k on it. Brand new tires, century cap, bed extender, etc. They are asking $20,995....so I might think about that. It would be an upgrade in everyway to my truck...although it has a slushbox. Ugh...drove pretty nice though.
