I don’t think Elon wants to wait for Starship to get 2.0 or some version of it in orbit. The cadence of Starlink launches is pretty insane.

He basically has to wait for Starship. It's physically a more massive satellite, and to make it cheap enough, Starship is the only one that can carry enough of them to make it cheap.

Even so they aren’t waiting for Starship otherwise there wouldn’t be a mini version. With that it still has a more promising outlook than project Kuyper, I’m more curious about what Amazon is going to do to get the satellites up that were supposed to go on New Glenn. Vulcan got the first two BE-4’s and with 2 flights required for Space Force certification that could delay access to engines if recovery doesn’t go as intended or if turn around time isn’t fast enough. Those are contracted flights and one New Glenn would eat up enough for 3 separate Vulcans so I’d expect at least 2 or 3 more sets to go to Vulcans before New Glenn gets any. It might not even get to start proofing until 2024.

NASA needs to channel some 1960s NASA attitude and figure out how to launch SLS early and on short notice.

Could they make their mission parameters though? I realize the best way to protect SLS from the hurricane is in space, but I thought that they had a small launch window because Orion is going to the moon?

I don’t know. I’m not a rocket scientist, just a guy heckling from the back of the room.

Per Eric Berger's unidentified source, they have one more rollout in the budget (and then start risking damage per each additional rollout).

Yeah, there's a lot of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" going on with this rocket.
