Thinking of buying 2.7 SR 2023 Double Cab SB as a second vehicle to new 4Runner TRD.

Just sold last month (advertised only on this forum and sold here) my 10 year old 2014 DCSB 4x4 ORSB. Prior to that have driven only DCSB 4x4’s mainly TRDs as demos for the past 30 years.

At the store we referred to the 4cly (5 lug) as “Old Mans Trucks” and only would get maybe 1 every month or so in stock. Then if young guy bought was always standard transmissions and 4x4. If automatic was old guy (i am 74) and now i am starting to see the reason.

Wife’s 2017 Sienna has 96k on it. Thinking trade it in on the above truck. Using it as just second vehicle. Live in the middle of Texas and drive to Florida often. Hauling would be gardening stuff like mulch, etc. Thinking it would be fine if wanted to drive it to Florida on I-10 as it’s flat. Always have the 4Runner if heavy is needed get a uhaul trailer.

Sorry this is long but when in the business just never gave much thought to the old man truck. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    I'm happy with my '13 5 lug.

In your case, and the use you describe, I'd keep the Sienna.

Years of life left and will get better MPG than the truck. Not to mention it will haul more and do it with the contents secure.

Just talked to my lead tech of 25 years and he just said the same thing exactly. Said the truck was fine but keeping the Sienna would be way better.

2.7 is fine for around town put puttin and Just general slow driving. I wouldn’t expect any miracles but it’ll get the job done, although with major gear hunting from the auto.

Big question is i can trade $7000 drive out now. Drop the 96k Sienna and have two brand new vehicles at 74 years. Then only look at replacing the one. The 2.7 will outlast the granddaughters

Why don’t you run a couple of quotes online from carvana/carmax etc takes 2 min each and you’ll know what the sienna is worth. There has been strange demand for those suicide vans ever since the flu hit

I have the AC 4 cyl with 4x4.

The performance is not too shabby, I’m not sure if it’s going to be a bit worse with some extra cab weight.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Get your ass down there and buy that thing. I want pics of it in your driveway by the end of the day. Good luck

My son and I run his 2022 DCSB 2WD Tacoma 75+ mph on the Texas interstates with absolutely no issue. It will go much faster and keep up with all the interstate traffic other than the ones going at ludicrous triple digit speeds.

If the weight of what you are hauling in the bed is not too heavy, go with the 4 cylinder. I have it and I have yet to haul anything too heavy that it couldn't handle. However, be aware that if you intend to drive the truck a lot while hauling you may want to look at pricing the 6 cylinder in the SR5.

I like my 4 cylinder (2022). My daughter's 6 cylinder (2022) drives much differently because of the platform (SR vs TRD Offroad). I like both, but they are different.

Old folks vehicles tend to be the ones that make the most sense, if you disregard the land yachts Caddys, Buicks, Lincolns, etc. from long ago. I'd say that Taco is a smart move if you don't need 4WD.

Honestly, if the 2017 SR ACLB 2.7l MT came with the factory tow package, I would have bought that one and is the main reason that I have my Sport.

On my side, I finally saw the light in what I call an Old Man Mod. I tossed on some window vent visors and could not be happier. Since, I have been trying to convince my wife that she needs them on her Subaru.

Oh totally keeping, I love the old goat; plus my wife would kill me! The Tacoma will take over most of the duties of the Hilux, aside from things which would be easier to get in the low load floor! Needs a full brake job so it will be down for a bit.

I am selling my 1973 LTD Brougham to help fund the tacoma. 49k miles on it!

Mine was optioned with all weather mats, door sills and the SR convenience package.

would have liked the SR convenience but could get color i wanted (white) and have by the end of November so I’m getting a key.
If i see the need later to use for driving to Florida i will add a bed cover then. Otherwise keeping it like it comes.

edit 11/13 mine has SR Convenance package. Great!
Also will have seat heaters added very soon.
