Mounting the engine and transmission wouldn't be too hard.

I am saving up for a built T56 Magnum.

Also what *I* didn’t like about a T56 is the gearing being so tall. You need to compensate with a low rear gear. That = a smaller / weaker pinion gear in the OEM 8.4 / 8.25” ring gear in the carrier / third member.
I really like the Nissan CD009 or newer CD00A 6 speed with it close ratios. Many drifters are using them and I read there are owner’s running a lot of HP. thru them. With the Nissan trans one could run the taller / stronger stock rear gear. Maybe my info is wrong…

 

Best you can get is a 2.98 first gear. I agree with everything else you stated though.

 

Had a little time after work last night. Made a tad more progress. Pulled out the OEM master cylinder, made a template, and cut a hole for the larger Master cylinder. SIKKY CNC'd mount with a Wilwood Master.







New clutch and flywheel ordered. A new TOB is needed, then the transmission will be ready to go.

New gaskets waiting to be installed on the engine.

Next step is going to be steering rack bushings. Have to press the OEM ones out, then swap in the SIKKY aluminum bushings. They are hex head, and allow the rack to be adjusted over for header clearance. Literally, the hardest parts of the swap, IMO, are now out of the way.

2nd. Maybe you said it before but what trans is going in the BRZ?

3rd. When you installed the T56 in your Tacoma what shifting location in the trans was used? Because I *think* your T56 and the TKO I picked up are the same dimensions.
4th. I remember you had to modify the shifter to come through to fit in the OE location.
5th. Did the engine to trans adapter you used add any length to the trans? If so do you remember how much?
I’m just trying to figure out what shifter and trans location is going to be needed to get the shifter in the OE location. The I4 in the truck now I’m guessing sets back just a bit further than the double OHV V6 or an GM power plant will. Maybe the push rod V8 being it’s just a little bit narrower could set back just a inch or so.
Like I said if I can’t get the shifter in the OE location the V8 swap is out! Maybe go to a turbo…

The rear most. Which is also directly over the centerline of the output shaft. Yours is offset to the driver side.

4th. I remember you had to modify the shifter to come through to fit in the OE location.

I did have to modify the shifter arm. Due to the style of the Hurst shifter, and the general location.

The bellhousing was from APR, prior to URD taking over that adapter kit. It pushed the transmission back as much as they felt necessary. Unfortunately, I do not have a measurement of the bellhousing.

The trans I purchased is a direct fit for a 2nd. Gen. Corvette so that’s why the shifter is offset. The rear most shifter is easily purchased & replaced and from what I understand. Here’s one for $70.
But I was wondering if shifter for the center location would fit better?

 

It has to be in the center. Unless you're really good at making linkages. And it fits in the tunnel being offset to the side.

 

Here’s a photo of the two rear locations on the trans.

Then other shifters that can be purchased.

Then one for the middle location.

 

This one would most likely be the needed one.

 

Made a tad bit of progress on the BRZ swap. Every day has been super busy.

The headers from SIKKY, were designed to fit this car with this kit. Others may, but I have no knowledge on that point.

For them to fit however, due to such tight space constraints, the steering rack needs to be shifted to the right. To simplify this task, they include with their headers some machined eccentric bushings, made out of aluminum. Very nice pieces.

Used a large C-clamp and a 36mm socket, to press out the OEM steering bushings. Piece of cake. Some light tapping with a dead blow, and ghe new bushings went right in.

 

Next I'll move onto the engine. Getting the oil pans swapped, and new gaskets in place.

 

Once this car is finished, I can get back to modding on my truck. Built T56 Magnum here we come!!!

 

I may have missed this somewhere Mark, what are you swapping into the BRZ?

Purchased a new old stock Tremec TKO 5 spd and the used aluminum 5.3 L33 should be here within the week. Been looking for parts to refresh the L33.

 

This just popped on the main page and I saw BRZ so I started reading.

Holy engine swap. That’s going to fun! I had a bagged wide body turbo charger brz I sold and built my Tacoma.

I’m jealous of this one.
