Our magnolia is the first bloomer in the spring which still seems odd to me. So many people think of them as a southern tree, probably from watching The Masters golf tournament. There's a Japanese maple on the far corner that's kinda blocked in my photo. It's huge, I think it went in around 2004. Always worried about snow weight damage...I could never afford to replace it with one anywhere near the size. When/if we sell ths place I'd think about seeing if I could sell it to a nursery

Pruning is not hard, just scary the first time few times you do it. It becomes easy when you accept that the worst you can do is kill the plant. If that is not an option that you want to even begin to consider because the plant is too sentimental(my deceased mother/father/grandfather etc., gave it to me) or you spent way too much money on it to risk damaging it....then you hire pruning that plant out to the professionals. But if you are slow, carefully and conservative you will quickly gain confidence to prune. I have the reputation as a plant murderer when I prune but I am selective with being aggressive. Lilacs and rhodos love to be chopped and always come back so no worries. There are lots of how to videos/web sites online to show you how it is done. Just invest in quality pruning tools as they make the job much easier and are less damaging to the plants.

After I started dating my now wife I was volunteered to trim her leggy and not so healthy looking lilac bush. It looked like I had killed it when I finished but two years later the bush was ten times better than before I pruned it and even now ten years later it looks healthy and is in great shape. My future mother in law's facial expression was entertaining but now when asked to prune they do not worry at all about how it will turn out, even if it looks a little rough when I am finished.

I am sure you know, but different magnolia species bloom at different times. The one I have is early, but not as early as some of the other magnolias I see around. When I decided to plant some lilacs instead of buying three of the same plants I bought three different varieties, one the blooms early in the season, one middle and one late so I have lilacs for a good 6 weeks instead of the normal 2.

If I wanted to get a winch and a bumper, what winches are you guys using and how do you feel about them?

More of a food for thought since I’m probably skint until the new year

It is really going to depend on how crazy you want to go with your rig and how much you believe that you will wheel it hard enough to need one. I wheel mine about 6-8 times a year and have only used my winch twice. But when I needed it, I was glad that it was there. I have the Smittybilt X20 10000lb. some people want to pay a crapload for a Warn, and they are GREAT winch, but if I wheeled every weekend pushing my truck to its limits every time and wasn't a daily driver, then yeah, I might have gone with a warn. Some people have the Harbor Freight "Bad Lands" winch and absolutely love it.......it is one that I would have gotten myself actually if this smittybilt that I have now wasn't such a great deal when I got it.

Speaking of winches. There was a place in Putnam ct. called superwinch. I wonder what happened to them.

If I end up getting a job closer to home I might get a bumper and winch but the one spot I wanted, won’t really know until April.

yeah the badlands seems like a good deal with one of those 20% off no exclusions coupons.

edit: @CttAznRanger let me know when it’s bumper install time because I wanna learn :)

    Damn!

You're 4 days over a year to the day when I had that too. Mine was the radiator, same idea but I was fortunately on normal town roads. All of a sudden the heat was getting colder, I thought "that usually only happens when...", looked down at the gauge and I was running hot!

Google says it was November 5th '21

    Question,
can anyone recommend a back up light bulb that is LED and where I can get them to put in my tail lights here in Massachusetts, that's a little bit brighter than stock bulbs? Also can all my bulbs be made LED in my Tail lights?

We most likely will be putting it on his rig.....it's not that hard, You just need to know the process, maybe a little cutting, and torque specs. Other than that it's easy peasy
