You're a better shot than me. The only handgun in my collection I can shoot like that is my Staccato, which I give more credit to the gun than myself.

My point all along! My CZ can hit targets far off better than my other handguns. It’s does have a very tight slide to frame fit as well. Literally no wiggle between the 2.

True, but the spread of the weapon could always happen in a direction that adds to the spread of the shooter. At defensive distances (generally within about 7-8 meters), adding 1" or less to a decent shooter's spread won't make a difference with just getting lead on a silhouette the size of a mugger, but for just trying to get a "ding" from steel at 50 yd that extra inch can become a factor, especially on "iron" sights

Ya, with pistols if I can double tap a d28 at 7 yards I'm happy, everything else is rifle territory.

For probably 99.999% of encounters this is probably all anyone needs, but I can't help but think of that kid that stopped the mall shooter at 40 yards, or the NRA instructor that took the church shooter at 30. With the right handgun and practice it's nice knowing you can reach out a bit more if you need to.

NGL, if I'm a 40 yards I'm going for the exit or cover not gonna take 40+ yard shot that I will most likely miss anyway. I've never shot anywhere but on a range and I'm not confident that even if I can ping steel at that range, I can hit someone shooting back. Every missed shot can be another victim.

I have had two (2) home invasions they were not by steel targets. They were both by live human strangers. Go to an indoor range and train with the target moving towards you. Even then you cannot factor in the adrenaline and tunnel vision that will be involved when a confrontation takes place.

I get it. Not saying we should all pretend to be heroes, but at the same time these were average dudes just like us, and what they did prevented a lot more innocent people from being killed. Just depends on the situation.

Maybe if I had experience umm "under fire" I would be more confident, but I have no idea how "steady" I will be if it happens. I have a wife and 2 kids, as bad as it sounds I need to get them out, or if I'm alone, get myself out so they don't grow up without a dad.

My first choice HD weapon is probably my Mossberg Shockwave for those reasons. The "spread" factors in differently when there's 7-20 (depending on which of load I've got chambered at the time) projectiles coming at once. Plus the sound of the slide is so distinctive that it can possibly stop an incident before there's any need to pull the trigger at all. Since that gun can't really be shouldered, I've got a big green laser mounted on the rail as well. I'd figure adrenaline would be more likely to cause a ND in a standoff than put the whole load off target.

I feel the same way man. Can't say how I'd react either. I like to think I'd be able to keep my wits about me, but stress does crazy things to people, and some people just handle it better than others. I've never really had an issue with it before, but I've also never been shot at before either, but a little extra practice at the range never hurts.

P229 in .357 Sig. It was the kid at the mall that made the 40 yard shot, though he does admit to using a pillar for support to make it. Still amazing though given everything going on.

Spread really isn't alot, at most inside of your house ranges your only looking at 3-4" of spread at most, still need to aim a pattern that small.

Priority one should always be getting the people who matter out of danger. Doing that by putting someone else down is what I would consider a last resort in a case where clearing out isn't possible.

I definitely don't currently have the skill that the guy in that mall shooting (South Carolina, I think?) had, getting 8 of 10 on target at 40 feet with something like a G26 in a hot situation. I'd probably be hard pressed to get 8 of 10 inside the "7" ring at 40 feet with that gun going up against paper.

The laser should keep me within 2" without my mind being fully conscious. The hope would always be that the slide plus the green line would be as far as anything would have to escalate; I've never been tested even to that point to know for sure what I'd do facing the real deal, but I'm not looking to put anyone down unless they've decided that only one of us is walking away.
