I’m not experienced enough with plasma to know the difference, but I’ve caught a sense that people who know definitely prefer cutting characteristics of the higher end ones.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It's often the same complaints as cheapo welders. You get inconsistent arc current and the cut diverts or doesn't fully cut through. Or it's unstable and cuts out mid pass.. etc.

What about a metal-cutting circ saw? Obviously not a direct replacement, but seems like an improvement over a grinder for certain jobs without the expense and size of a plasma.

Matt (of Matt's Off-Road Recovery) mentioned in a recent video that he barely uses his plasma anymore; it's almost all circ and grinder.

I think this is the saw he was using: https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/XSC03Z

I wonder, though, if he just landed himself a Makita sponsorship that encouraged him to push the saw a bit. I remember him using Makita in the early days of the channel, then one day he had a shop full of Hercules stuff (presumably thanks to Harbor Freight sponsorship), now all the Hercules seems to have been replaced with a bunch of brand-new Makita. Lots of close-up action shots of the Makita saw and grinder, too. He's an unashamedly cheap and lazy man, so I doubt he went out and bought the entire catalog on his own...

YouTube monetization is fun to decipher.

Maybe? I’d have to see how much consumables cost for one of those. The grinder is as good as something hand held can get for straight line stuff, but I go through cutting disks pretty quick if it’s anything heavy. Curved stuff I end up with a jigsaw, which is barely adequate. Seems like a plasma would do both jobs for me so long as i can come up with a good way to use a straight edge with it.

Yeah YouTube sponsorships are something else, really hard to know what to trust on there. Really curious how that wrecker build is going to turn out.

True but have you looked into them at all? I mean really?

They have a 3 year warranty, and customer support that stems from the US. They go above and beyond to support any and all customer issues (if any) and have even supported people with non-PrimeWeld machines.

Just join their FB group and read for yourself.

When I suggest something I treat it like it's my own money; I wouldn't suggest it if I wouldn't buy it myself which is...the machine I happen to own already.

    Not anymore.

Sold my 6700k build a few days ago so my GTX 1080TI went with it.

My other 1080TI is in storage so I figure I'll wait for this RTX3080 to land on my lap.

Metal blade cutting saws are awesome in giving burr-free cuts.

Blades are expensive, but last longer than many abrasive wheels so really I'd say a cold cut saw is cheaper in the long run.

Only downfall is how loud they are, and the huge chunks of metal you get flung everywhere.

I use an EVO saw and love it when I need a quality cut done.

Absolutely true, and I'll definitely piggy back on your "like a welder" analogy.

No it's my build lol just gave it a look she'd like for funsies.

I switched it up just cause I wanted a new build. Old build was 6 years strong.

Speaking of, I've got an old Intel E8400 build (LGA775) going. Just need a few remaining parts.

The new build is an Intel 12400.

the e8400 going to be business build only? sounds interesting

12400 shouldn't give you any hiccups, I'll be interested to see the end specs in action!

Oh I’m sure their support is fine, but I just don’t like the Chinese gov and prefer to keep money and manufacturing stateside if at all possible. Hard to do these days, but every once in a while a category of products has that possibility, and welding equipment is one of them.

But double, sometimes triple the price for less features…ouch.

Well the 6-year-old build already ran every game at 1440p resolution on Ultra settings.

The new setup will just future proof me since the new cpu gets rid of efficiency cars that are otherwise misused, and single core performance that Rivals that of higher end processors.

    Understandable!

Hard to get away from, unless you're a trust fund baby or something

That or for someone who lives with their parents.

Yeah, he did mention the noise. Is the metal debris more annoying than the dust you get from a grinder?

The wrecker is looking better than I expected when I first saw the axles mocked up under the chassis. The man seems to know what he's doing... the Morrvair turned out to be an impressively capable vehicle.
