Took you a bit (and way too much effort), but you got there in the end!

Put a snap gauge in there.. you'll find (I bet) that the hole ain't so much round any more. The heat treat pulled it oblong. My guess would be poor quality steel.

    I was thinking the same.

I've never had good luck using the veneer gauges for measuring small diameter holes when getting that far past the decimal.

I told my boss maybe the steel was mislabeled which affected the heat treat.

110V is just a tingle. Wait till you try and remove a phase of 480V (so 277v) on a breaker and accidentally hit the #3 phase on the live breaker beside it with an un-insulated screwdriver... :anonymous:

Possibly, but I would expect it to symmetrical. This almost seems like some sort of inclusion in the metallurgy. That bit expanded at 'X' because it was proper A2, the other side touched on an area which contained contaminants and expanded at 'Y'? :notsure: Just a WAG...

I don't recommend it... Luckily I didn't have too good of a grip and not much of a connection and the screwdriver bounced outta my hand...

Didn't even put a burn mark on it! o_O

Just a reminder it's what happens when people are forced to get in a rush. Bad things couple happen. I also now carry an insulated screwdriver in my "crash" tool bag...

When operations is yelling at you over the radio to get it up and running and you don't have the balls to say "go eff yourself, we gotta do this safely" and get in a hurry o_O

Reminds me of that time I couldn't figure out which breaker this wire was on, turns out it was a 30 amp 220V and my pliers got a wire skinning addition :anonymous:

Telling them what your thinking comes with knowing you can leave the job anytime with no worries.

It makes going to work so much easier as well. It made working fun for me the last 15 years.

Well, I would have roared out of the house at 6:30 -- if it weren't so much work...

The temperature is up 25 degrees already, 63 in November. :woot:

We had a guy in another plant touch 2 phases together in a small local disconnect.

Somehow it not only tripped the 800 amp main breaker for the building but also blew one of the transformer fuses on the pole out front. That caused quite a mess -- fortunately not in my plant...

    As usual his
    @$$#ole
boss (who had no skills other than a loud voice and knew nothing about equipment) was pushing.

So, how did that work out for you today pal?
