At one time New Welding machines came with the links not installed most often the ones that the input power needed installed by the end user .

For those that do not know the links allow the input power to be set for the local power available some how the plant electrician set the links for 240VAC instead of 480VAC powered up caused a dead short took out the main panel and the transformer that took out a few other industrial plants.

I was across the street I had a very short day

Poll didn’t serve, my father and grandfather served in navy. If my fire academy didn’t finish ( they were gonna cancel the class if one more person failed out)I was gonna enlist in the navy but it never happened. I’m very thank full of the one that have served.

My grandpa on dads side was in WWII and my uncle was in the Navy. My dad got a draft card for Vietnam but couldn't go because of the pin in his leg from the car wreck that took both of his parents.

I too am very thankful to all who have served :hattip:

That was my thought as well mislabeled.

That seems to happen much more often these days!!

So question for the group as we have a mix military and civilian folk. The definition of "A Veteran" (and bear in mind this question is coming from someone with >36 years of Regular Force service): Is someone who has served, but not actually gone in to harm's way really a Veteran? The reason I ask this is because despite the fact that I have multiple tours in a war zone, the worst danger I ever faced was not getting down to supper in time to get ice-cream on steak night. As part of my Veteran's Portrait Project work over the last ten years, I've talked to a LOT of WWII and Korean war Veterans as well as folks who've done time in Afghanistan and other "fun" places, and hearing stories of being torpedoed in the North Sea, sharing a smoke with a enemy soldier who'd lost his legs on the Normandy Beaches... those guys are Veterans! I'm proud of my service, but it's just not in the same category...

To me, if you served then you are a Veteran. It's takes everybody doing what they do to keep everything going smooth.

In my mind, anybody who's gone through the training and preparation to be put in harms way for our country is a veteran. Whether they actually had to run for cover or not doesn't change the fact that they were prepared to do what they had to when given the command.

You are a veteran! You should be appreciated just as much as those guys you listed.

I never considered needing combat as a requirement. I can't believe there are some that think you do!

I never served. I am not a veteran of military service.

    Thankyou for your service!

Our siding job still isn't finished, siding part is done, but the columns still need to be replaced. No contact from anyone since August.

might be a little different view but theres combat veterans and veterans. Just because you didnt see combat doesnt make you any less of a veteran. Whether you served 4 or 20 or 30 yrs you are a veteran.

Its kinda like game warden, state, or city police all have different tasks but each is a police officer.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. I see your point, just sort of feels like one doesn't 'measure up' if you get my meaning.
