Look up USS MAHAN Shooting...it was in home port. Not in "harms way"

There's always a risk in the military and members can be a target anythime anywhere.

At the end of a day, anyone who served had to go through the process and swear an oath.

 

Kinda like a welder that works on a line does the same few welds day after day.

Then the next one can do code work in 3 different processes in any position.

Both are still called welders.

Custom knife i had made from a guy here in kentucky... jparks I dont know if hes still making knives or not. I think it was out of old saw blade.

 

I'm guessing that when you signed up, you had no idea where that would lead you, or what could / would happen. Being willing to stand up with that in mind makes you a veteran no matter how things turned out in the end.

Now here's an even more conflated question in the form of a thought exercise*:

Global War on Terror was the rise of the battlefield contractor and militant intelligence community. "Veteran's Day" has always been applied to uniformed military, enacted following WW1.

What do you call the "civilian" that participated in the GWOT, left the wire or otherwise was in harm's way, while not wearing a DOD uniform? Most I know that fit that description don't dare apply that title to themselves or others out of respect, but by definition and deed, could claim that same title.

Some OGA examples:
DEA - Afghanistan
Dept of State DSS Air Wing - Iraq/Afghanistan
DIA civilians - Iraq/Afghanistan
CIA - GRS / Civilian Intel Support

*From a family of multiple generations of vets, combat or peacetime, thinking out loud.

As someone who's been in Naval Training System for the last five years, responsible for taking the output of basic training and getting them trade-qualified and on to ships... You're NOT wrong!!!!
