Wondering if anyone else was hard for this bike?

I nosed up at the last second but almost dove into one. If it comes back next year though, look out. If I'm employed, I'll probably get one.

Frankly only 2 things held me back.

First... 13000 dollars, for an unknown run in the US. Sure they sell overseas, but I'm not going to be shipping accessories from england, and there are likely differences that will make future repairs difficult if they only sell a few here.

Second.. 19 inch wheel. I have a 21 right now, I like it a lot. Great off road, great on road. That is, its great when the road throws you a curve ball. I surmounted a mattress that flew off a truck in front of me. Managed to get down to about 35 before I had to set up the "surmouting" . Super awesome.

I mean, 19 isn't 17, and it's not a dirt bike. But I'd really have to see how they fare before I put down BMW money on a yamaha (though I think yamaha's a better company, BMW has adventure touring locked).

So, next serious bike might be a shoot out between a new tenere or f800 or a used 1200GSA

Any other dual sport/adventure riders out there?

In my area no motorcycle dealer will special order a new model for anybody cause the dealers are having a hard time selling the new bikes they have on stock, they want to sell what they have first before they order any new models. One Yamaha, Honda dealer is selling new bikes at give-a-way prices new FZ6R for $4995, a new Honda Interceptor for $6995, and a V Star 650 for $3695, In 2010 I got a new 09 Tmax for $4995, and a new Suzuki King Quad 750 AXI for $4895.
My dream bike is a Suzuki 1000 V Strom but no Suzuki Dealer in my area has any on stock, when I ask for one they simply tell me they didn't order any for this year cause they had a hard time selling the ones on stock last year and they can't get me one (they have the 650 V Strom).
They won't order any new models untill they sell what they already have on stock.
Dealers in my area advertize that they sell new bikes for less money than what used ones cost.

The tenere is ONLY available for special order. The dealer can't get any without a name attached.

If they're a yamaha dealer they'll order it. Its a program.
You have to put down the deposit.

You should see what we pay for motos out here. Its embarassing. I've contacted mainland dealers to get quotes of hundreds less after shipping to hawaii than I can get locally. But hawaii has a "tariff" on "imported" vehicles. You have to own it for like 6 months on the mainland before shipping. An impact tax I think they call it. Whatever, its a retail protection bill.

Even if you gave a local Yamaha Dealer the total cash, paid in full he still wouldn't order you a bike, he would try to talk you into buying another model he has on stock.
(Its illegal in my state to pay for anything with more than $6000 cash) you must take your cash to the bank and get a bank check.

WHAT? I'm pretty sure it's against the law to cap money. There is a law allowing businesses to turn down large amounts and large quantities for clerical's sake, but "all debts public and private" period I'd love it if you could pull up a link. I can't find anything. I've heard people say stuff like that before. Never seen it proven or even referenced, and I can reference us Code saying otherwise. I'll pay pal you 20 dollars if you can find a reputable source. Say, pennsylvania law. Here's a link to get started if you're interested .

there is code stating that all banks (probably other institutions as well) need to report transactions over $10000.

Regardless. That's a shitty dealer. The tenere is a special release model. If he doesn't want to sell it, he'll lose any business it could bring. It does suck to be stranded with a special order unsellable item though. But he must not be doing well if he wouldn't get on board with this promotion. This isn't just a "special order" of something that's not in stock. This is a limited run. Like the plymouth prowler etc. But its being sold to people, not dealers (so's I understand) reservations by people only.

I own a GSA and had a chance to look at a Tenere the other day (check around, Yamaha has been delivering one or two to dealers to help generate interest and I think also for customer test rides) from one of our local factory Yamaha guys.

I think it's going to be a good seller for peeps that want a touring bike to do something like the Pony Express Trail or Colorado Divide Ride. It's low--not a lot of ground clearance. But it sells well in Europe. To me, it's akin to the V-Strom.

If you are looking for a dirt bike touring bike, have a look at the KTM 990 Adventure. It's still big. Maybe a 690 would be worth a look see?

Good luck what ever you choose.
