New wheels got delivered yesterday (Method 703's) and was wondering what the consensus was for the TPMS. Should I just swap the stock ones to the new wheels or just buy new and have the tire shop program them to the truck? If so, which ones are recommended?

It all depends on what you want to do with wheel/tires you are replacing.

Do you mean if I plan on just selling them they're worth more to someone if the have the TPMS with them? More marketable not necessarily price wise?

If u swap your old ones, a shop is going to charge u for it and you’ll be stuck with old sensors.
If you buy new ones, you’ll have new sensors programmed and you can sell your stocks as a complete package for more money.
To me it’s a no brainer, why spend money to swap old ones that usually last about 5 years or so. Keep the stock units as is just in case I want to swap the them back later or sell them for a little added money because they’re complete. New oem sensors can be bought from online Toyota sites just around $150 for 4. A tire shop will charge you at least $15 each for dismount and mount just to swap the sensors over.

I ordered wheels/tires package with new TPMS. The truck is really shotty with the new sensors and only wants to read the pressure sometimes.. like maybe 10% of the time. Wish I would’ve had my OEM sensors swapped into them before I sold them.

The truck has 1600 miles on it so they're not "old" but I understand what you're saying. Would you recommend just sticking with OEM sensors or aftermarket ones like Autel?

Stick with your OEM sensors, especially since they're practically new.

At discount tire, swapping your TPMS sensors over is no extra charge.

if you swap your sensors, do not remount the tires to the wheels. the person you sell them to will have to pay to have new sensors installed including unseating the tires to install new sensors. I cant understand why people remount the tires, after they remove the sensors, then try to sell them. makes no sense.

with you being in New Jersey, I would keep the stock wheels and sensors, and use them in the winter. gives you 2 sets of wheels and tires to rotate, less tire wear on each set. and you get to save your good wheels for a lot longer time. Ski

At least the wheels and tires can be used if they are mounted and can show they hold air. I put my old wheels and tires back on to ceramic coat my new wheels and give them a chance to dry before putting the new ones back on. The person I sold them to didn't care about the sensors since it was going on an older truck. I guess it depends on how you look at it. :notsure:

I’d say most people buying takeoffs are buying them for older trucks without tpms.

Regardless. I haven’t heard of a shop charging more than their standard tpms installation price just because they have to dismount a tire.
That’s just part of the job.

Haha.. you don't have to buy them?

I bought sensor-less OEM alloy wheels and tires that had 10 miles on them for $650. It was a great deal for me and apparently the seller. I don't really care about TPMS.. I walk around the truck and can see if they're inflated. If I get desperate I break out the old school tire pressure gauge.

when i got my 4R TRD pro wheels, Mavis just transfer the TPMS and put "service Kit" for the OEM sensors. the Service kit was new seals for the contract point.they did everything for 100 bucks. i did not wanted to pay for aftermarket tpms since people states they had issues with them

I’m on my original TPMS from 2013, I actually intended to replace with new OEM this time last year but wanted to see how far the current ones will run.

$250 huh? I'll sleep on that offer....lol. Everyone has them on sale right now. About $50 bucks less per wheel and free shipping on Amazon.
