Just last week I had some new wild peaks put on my 2022. I told the guys at tire shop to be extra careful with my wheels. Not only is this a brand new truck, but I might sell the wheels in the future and swap with something else. So I can't have any flaws in my wheels.

I inspected the wheels closely after the new tires where on but was mainly looking for scratches at the edge of the wheel where it meets the tire. Well...I washed my truck this morning and noticed this little knick. It is small, but it really bothers me, this is my new truck.

I am still trying to work out with the tire shop what they are going to do about it. And I am not exactly sure what I want them to do about it.

I tried to work on it a little bit myself, to attempt to buff it out. But there is almost a clear coating on these wheels that prevents a clean buff out.

Anyone have experience fixing this sort of thing?

I am really pissed about this.

Pretty sure mine had an imperfection or two like that from the factory. I ran them for 3 years in central PA, including winters, and added several more blemishes.

I then proceeded to sell them for the average asking price for TRD Off-Road take-off wheels. I would not invest any additional time, money, or aggravation into them. Just my $.02.

Looks like a rock chip/strike to me. So long after you left the shop, there's no way to prove they did it. It happens

that was chipped scratched long ago, and has corrosion starting. very common. water, salt, moisture gets under the clear coat on the wheel, from the impact, where wheel weights are mounted, or on the bead where road grime chaff's the wheel, and corrosion starts. this is not something to blame the shop for. Why would you install Wildpeak tires and then cry over a small knick on your wheels?

What is the purpose of those tires then?

    o_O:rofl:

Dang, have some of you been camping out in my garage? I am glad some of you all know when and how this happened. That is amazing insight.

This happened during the tire install, I am certain of that. I haven't really gone anywhere in the past week, truck has mostly been sitting in my garage. I live in Florida, we don't have much in the way or rocks. I don't drive on gravel roads. It isn't impossible for a random rock to be on our roads, but that would be really rare for that to be the cause. And I have only had my truck for a couple of months, so no, this didn't happen "long ago".

Don't worry man, the OR wheels have flooded the market and will never be rare. This is the difference between you getting $350 or $400 for the wheels.

Well, you could try and sue the tire shop but i'm pretty sure Judge Judy is going to ask for conclusive proof that they scratched them up and not just your hunch.
I'd wrap them in bubble wrap before i drove it again.

A body shop can feather out the clear and spot in some clear. Not a huge repair, just some time and looks like it can be fixed on the car. Lot of dealerships have some mobil companies that repair little spot jobs like this all the time.

A co-worker on time used a wheel shop to repair several expensive factory wheels (wife would hit curbs). I recall it was $150 a wheel and they looked new afterwards. Maybe you could find take offs on your local Craigslist for less?

Thanks to those offering helpful advice, vs. the trolls on here who are ok with someone fucking up their brand new truck.

You are pissed about that small scratch? Unless you took pics immediately before the install and inspected them before leaving the lot, you have very little proof.

That wheel is worth $100 at best.

I will add that there are plenty of wheel refinishing services. I have worked at several different brand dealerships and they used mobile as well as taking them to them. It can be fixed pretty easy. Find one, call them up and get a estimate to repair it then contact the wheel shop.

Why did you come here? If you were looking for sympathy, you came to the wrong place. I know it sucks, but it’s not really a huge deal and the tire shop will likely tell you to pound sand. You have zero proof they did it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll offer to have it repaired. Your not going to get your answer here though so stop getting pissed at the replies and call the tire shop.

Yes, I take care of my stuff and I don't want my new truck wheels scratched by someone who is careless. I admit proving the tire shop did it will be hard because I didn't take immediate before and immediate after pics. Didn't think I had to because I asked them to be careful. Same exact thing just recently happened to my buddy how was getting tires put on his Tundra at BJs...the tire guy scratched up his wheel and BJs bought him a new wheel.

If you can read - why I came here is in my original post - asking if anyone has experience in how to fix a scratch like this. Pretty simple ask, isn't it?

I am dealing with the tire shop and will have to see what they offer up.

Maybe he was not looking for sympathy but rather empathy. I get how much it sucks to have your wheel nicked. It is pretty easy to do if the tire shop equipment is not properly maintained. The plastics wear on the equipment so this can happen. Most reputable tire shops will take care of you.

A quick google search brings up several rim repair services in your area, but you created a thread on a forum where people from all over the world can read and respond to it. I'm guessing you're the troll.
