Question: how many miles are people going on a dino oil change on a bike? Not synthetic. Im at 3k miles. Is that about my limit?

On my Buell before I went synthetic, I changed every 2500 miles, air cooled motor. On my antique Honda CB400F I change every 2000 but that could take me 3 years to put that much on that bike.

Normally 3k would take me 2 years. But this bike, i can go further.

Asking because riding seems a little rough. I know im due for a change, but I was trying to wait until spring

Given the choice I would change oil before storage. Why not run synthetic?

I usually start to feel it around 2500-3000miles. Neutral becomes harder to find and that’s my signal to buy supplies and change soon.

Id rather let the bike sit in old oil, and change it in the spring.

    Does synthetic have longer mileage?

Old oil always has byproducts of the combustion process in it which can be acidic. Most sources I've read suggest changing oil before putting it away for storage. That said I will admit not changing the oil in my vintage Honda or Buell each year due to the low mileage each gets ridden.
Synthetic oil lasts a lot longer than dino oil. I know a few IBR guys who send oil samples to Blackstone labs for analysis to see how long they can safely run them before the additives are gone and the oil is no longer doing its best. One FJR owner I know is running Shell Rotella T6 and using 11k mile oil change intervals.
