For those of you that only put 3 bolts of the shield back on; it makes a terrible rattle almost like a grinding noise. Put that 4th bolt back on. It only took me about 30 minutes to get it back on there.. :anonymous:

I can imagine. That top screw does suck though.

No...take off the fourth bolt again, tighten the other three and see if it rattles...

    Or it gets the hose

Here is an insight into the amount of material that comes out as waste when making a batch of disks

Firn should be President! Thank you Firn for your genius fix. Shame on Toyota for that evil accumulator!

I've driven manuals since the 80's. I even enjoy driving 'economy' rentals in Europe only because they have manuals. My big goal was to get a Tacoma before they changed it. I ordered (aka: put in for an allocation) in April, 2021 and finally got my '22 TRD Pro in April, 2022. As arduous as the wait it was, I was thankful I got one of the few manuals. That is, until I got it.

At first I thought it was me because I just sold my 2018 Dodge Challenger with a TREMEC 6 speed and just figured it was car vs. truck. But driving just stunk! I even began considering selling it and buying an automatic (much to my own shame). Then Tacoma World (which helped me through my year long allocation wait) revealed the accumulator story. So I crawled under my Taco and yes, I saw it there. I read up and considered all the various 'fixes' that Tonered laid out for us (Thank you Tonered !). For the reasons others said, I was on the fence about taking a brand new truck apart and 'fixing' it with bypass lines, etc. This went on for about 4 months.

Then Firn came through with his genius brass disc. I put it in about 2 weeks ago and OMG, its like folks say; Day & Night!!!! I now love driving my Taco, its just like a regular manual now and all the sickening effects of that darn accumulator are GONE. It is unbelievable how much difference that piece makes. We are all just darn lucky that Firn is decent enough to make them for us and offer them up for sale. Thanks again Firn!

I followed all the hints of the brother Taco post-ers for the install. So as to offer something to the conversation; the only thing I did different is that noticing the trouble some had with working in the tight spaces, particularly the top shield bolt, I had my wife help. Her little hands were perfect for reaching the bolts. I got them loose with the tools and she was able to get them off. Then on reassembly, she got them started and I tightened them. She doesn't know anything about cars, but if you point the spot, she easily got them off/on.

Thanks again Firn & Tonered. You made my 50k purchase go from cringing drive to super cool!

I’ve had my Taco for a little over 3 years now and for those 3 years I was second guessing my ability to drive a manual. I loved my Taco but there were times I considered selling it. Then I found this thread. I was on the fence about taking the Dremel to mine and I didn’t want to eliminate the accumulator with the brake line mod. Once I seen Firn put out the brass disk I knew that’s the route I was going. I finally got around to doing it yesterday and what difference. Granted it took longer than I wanted just for the fact I had to keep on stopping for various reasons throughout the day mainly kids and wife. And it didn’t help that my flare nut wrenches were over a friends house and I desperately needed them due to living in the Northeast with all the rock salt. For those on the fence don’t hesitate just do it.

    Glad it helped!

Thank @tonered to for the thread, I wouldn't have made anything if it wasn't for the good discussion here

@Firn I got my Accumulator installed this weekend and so far I love it. Just one question tho, the clutch pedal has a hang-up about half way on the return. after it gets past the hang-up it returns quickly and usually slaps the soul of my shoe. Should the clutch pedal return smoothly?

That's the key, putting that 4th bolt in puts way too much stress on the system
