Sorry to hear Buel. At least you are safe and hopefully no major damage other than the belt

ha! Yeah, stand by for your 6 pack…

I’m curious about that 30k timing belt as well. It was a “genuine OEM” kit I bought on EBay which likely wasn’t all that genuine.

Suspect for sure. I can’t think of a single legit reason to shop ebay with all the risks. Especially for critical or PITA parts to change. I might be weird but I enjoy going to a Toyota dealer and working with the parts counter people. On the subject of them not being able to lookup much for older trucks - simply have your VIN with you and it takes the guesswork out for them. You can also inspect the parts in person before accepting them and leaving. Other than a higher price, which is absolutely worth it, I don’t see a downside. If you ask, you’ll likely get their online pricing too, which is about 15-20% lower. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

I'm going double or nothing here. My bet is a bad pulley bearing that stressed the belt.

I'm in the same camp. Probably the biggest reason to place the fuel pump in the tank is that it is far more efficient to "push" a liquid than "pull" it, as well as helping negate vapor lock, I believe.
Does gasoline in the tank cool the pump? Yes, but the motor never gets that hot even without fuel (I've hooked up fuel pump motors to a 12V power source and they run a long time without a liquid passing through them.)

    Was it the Aircabinman kit?

Please tell me no. I just installed one of those on my '04.

I don't blame the seller. He has something like 100k items sold and a 99.7% positive feedback rating. Sells all sorts of parts for all types of vehicles. I was the one buying on EBay to save a buck and I knew I was taking my chances with that strategy. That being said, I'm not going to withhold the sellers name in case someone else is considering buying his TB kit and still has the chance to buy direct from the dealership or a Toyota online parts store like McGeorge

That's cheap considering I paid $1800 to get mine fixed. The mechanic did a good job so I guess I can't complain. I would not have been able to set TDC for sure

That's good to know for a frame of reference. I had a bit of price tag shock on that, but it is what it is. I need the truck fixed.

Bummer about the timing belt. Any idea why it went at 30K?
