passing wires through firewall

I'm trying to get my Hella 500's wired up, but I can't seem to figure out how to send the wires through the firewall to my switch. I've located a rubber plug with a bunch of wires going through it on the floor behind the clutch. The clutch however, is making it difficult for me to tinker around up there and figure it out. Anyone have any pointers?

 

Now do you have to pop the grommet out or just "smash" the wires through?

 

Ok.. that makes sense. I suppose that way it still creates a fairly tight seal around the wires. I guess I'll look around and see if I can find a more accessible spot to send them through.

 

yup. i use a straightened coathanger and tape the wire to the hanger on one end, so when you push the hanger through the wire goes with it. its a tight fit, but you can make it work

Awesome pics... that helps out a bunch. The grommet with the hood latch cable was the one that I was looking at with mine.

Looks like I'll be raiding my closet for a wire hangar and the rest of this project should go smoothly.

Yep, I used the same place as netmonkey. Poke the hanger through, tape the wires and pull! Just tape it up real good. You could even make a U at the wire end, so that they "hook" each other, and pull it through. It'll make it a little tougher since its now thicker, but still works. Either way, you'll be good though.

 

make sure you tape up any connections you make with electrical tape. had one wiggle lose on me the other day
