Hello I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma I changed my oil the other day with 020 synthetic and a new filter I noticed an oil leak 3 days after when I got done working there was a drip of oil under the truck. I pulled the skid plates off and there was oil all over the drain pan and transmission. I wiped everything down clean again started the truck and noticed oil dripping from a little plastic cover above the oil pan in between the transmission..... I am thinking rear man seal but it is just weird it never leaked until I changed my oil please help

Did you put the oil cap back on? Could it be leaking from the top??

I definitely did the oil isn't on the sides it's coming right from the bottom above the oil pan between the transmission

I got the truck 3 months ago it's my first oil change I used 020 synthetic Castrol oil.... I'm wondering if the truck had a different thickness of oil in there that was preventing the leak possibly not much of a mechanic so it's just a guess

Drop the plastic pan that covers fly/torque converter. See is you can see if running down from rear main seal. Also check PCV, if plugged.

Less than $40 on Amazon you can get a uv dye leak detection set up. I’d start there

Did you check the oil level on the dipstick when you finished? Is it overfull? Maybe by a lot?

You didn't drain the transmission by any chance did you?

Sometimes, and I mean sometimes whiching oil brands will cause a leak. Some oils will react differently to the seals. Toyota oil is made by Mobil. That's why I stay with Mobil1.

Did you spill a bunch of oil while refilling it? It can get all over the place

I owned a 2001 GMC Sonoma for 14 years still have it did all my own maintenance never had any issues the biggest mechanical job I've done is intake manifold gasket on the Sonoma but I've always done my own oil changes no issues

From what I can find they're calling that plastic cover the upper oil pan shield

I may have overfilled it a bit when I change the oil. My driveway is uneven so I put the oil capacity in ,6 quarts..and check it,it was a little over the dot .... checked it after work the next day on level ground was the same I didn't think it was that bad so i ran with it and I noticed the leak Friday I bought the metal filter housing and changed it to bring the oil level down and that did not fix it either

How many miles on truck. A few have had rear mains leak, but they were over 100k. I would try oil change to mobil1. Just for shits and giggles. Whom knows, like I said I've seen it before, different oils act differently on seals. It cheap enough to do.
