Just curious about this. When we bought my son's 2007 AC/4x4 it only came with the Valet Key. My wife went over to our local lock shop to get another key made and the tech there said that he was 99.9% sure that a key fob was going to work (after programming it) would work to unlock/lock the truck and set the factory alarm. Problem was my wife obviously didn't have the truck with her so the guy could check. Does this sound plausible to anyone?? His truck has roll up windows and no lock/unlock button so to me it sound foreign so let me know if you have an answer to this. Thanks and enjoy your day.

In short if you don't have power locks (no lock/unlock button on the door) there's no way keyless entry is going to function.

Thank You for your response. That's what I thought. Which now leads me to another question. My son wants to take off the door panels and switch them to include power windows. He believes the harness that is in there is plug n play so the switches will obviously work. Without taking the door panels off I told him I don't think think it will work. I totally give an 18 yr old props for wanting to do this and learn himself. I told him if it didn't come from the factory with power windows you can't add them (no power motors etc). So I guess my question is can this be done. Thanks and enjoy the day.

Some people have added power windows and locks but I'm pretty sure they had to source wiring harnesses from trucks that were equipped or do custom wiring, I don't belive base models are prewired for much of anything. Some SR5 models are prewired for certain things but base models I don't think are.
If you search the site (use the google search at the bottom not the TW search for better results) you will find some threads about it.

I added power everything to my 1st gen with factory parts... as far as the wiring side of it, I can tell you they used 2 body harnesses on 1st gens, if it had ABS or power anything then it had all the wiring (in the body, not the doors) for the rest, mine was a stripper model & none of the factory harnesses existed for power accessories. The fuse block didn't even have pins in the spot the window relay went in.

I only did it because I stumbled on the jackpot. I'd been looking at it for a while, but the parts were silly money... like, I wanna say $1.5k (15 years ago) for the window regs, door latches, aftermarket mirrors, and switches. I found a dude who'd tube doored his truck & was trying to sell his whole doors, and talked him into selling me the complete guts. Which was great, I got door panels, the door harnesses, and all the factory parts needed.

I'm not familiar on a 2nd gen, but I have a suspicion the answer is that they'll have everything wired in the cab... or at least, provisions to plug in all the right harnesses. Even if that is the case though, I think trying to piecemeal it from parts will be death by a thousand papercuts... the answer, if you really want to do it, is donor doors. And I'd encourage you to get a firmer answer than my suspicion that the truck-side wiring is all there, cuz I can tell you from experience that making it work from scratch was not a small task.

None of which answers the key fob question itself, I'm honestly not sure what in the truck (or not present in that truck) receives the signal, and what might be necessary to make it happen... although once you had power locks, that at least could be fixed aftermarket (which is how I added keyless on my 1st gen)
