The show circuit is VERY orchestrated, different altitudes and positions from show center for those flybys, we do the same thing, we've had 30-40 planes in the pattern at the same time. Looked like the fighters were on the outer band and three went by, the King Cobra came out of no where off pattern, something was going on in that cockpit.. It was the only flying P-63 in the world..
    https://airbasegeorgia.org/bell-p-63a-kingcobra/

It was the Corvette of the air, pilots dubbed it the flying coffin during world war II it had a strange design the engine set behind the pilot, prop was connected by a drive shaft under the pilots seat.. Not a good feeling from what I heard.

Now in two or three years we've lost two B-17s, this one "Texas Rangers" was a pretty bird, really well maintained and piloted by superb crews! More well maintained than the Movie Memphis Belle I flew in here at TICO several years ago.

The same crew also was qualified, of only a hand full of crews, to fly FiFi the B-29. They had nothing to do with this accident, they didn't even know it was coming, this has really shaken the Warbird Community.

The VAC family knew many of the crews of the CAF, since we flew at many airshows with them over the years..

    Horrible, just HORRIBLE loss!

I know they have different altitudes for intersects and stuff. Like you, he was not where he was supposed to be. I just feel awful that these skilled people tragically lost their lives doing what they most truly love. Dam

There's just been way to many air show accidents over the past few years and I hope this most recent one in Dallas doesn't shut them down forever

I've been going to air shows since being in the military in the early 80's . I've seen (3) tragic crashes at air shows at my old duty station MCAS El Toro . I believe this is why all air shows were relocated to NAS Miramar All of these accidents have changed how air shows are run . Especially were the performing aircraft are located from the crowds of spectators

Also upgraded air traffic control has helped alot but it seems now they need to initiate newer more stringent safety protocols

I've been going to airshows for 55 years now, when Dad was alive he would take me to everything flying in the area. There is an inherent risk flying anything, but especially 70-80-90 years old aircraft. Our C-47 Tico Belle is in Palatka yesterday and today doing Parachute drops with the Round Canopy Jump team, just as she did over the beaches of Normandy in WWII, 80 years old and still kickin.

Old Aircraft are ment to fly.
Old Race Cars are ment to race.
Just to put them away somewhere is like tearing the soul away.

watching the video it looks like the plane was out of formation compared to the others that were whizzing by. got to wonder it there was some throttle/control issues going on

i enjoy seeing the older planes out for a lot of reasons but mainly these days its because they are - for the most part - the only surviving "veterans" of WW2. not many veterans alive today to share their experiences and having the planes around is a solid connection to that part of history. getting to see them fly, walk through them, you get a whole different perspective that you just can't get at a museum or reading a book.

yep, did that a month ago. i'd be in big trouble if it wasn't taken care of

@jwctaco - are your railing posts on the inside or outside of the rim joists? I'm back and forth on which way todo mine.

Details/pics later today. The short story version of it- I planed down a bit to much of the end of the deck beam (making the 2 deck beams flush to each other) so now I have a 1/2" gap between the top of the joist and the bottom of the deck plank.

They are notched, half on , half off. Installed after the deck floor was laid.

Saw this on another forum. People there (several pilots) were guessing it was a minor timing issue and at that attitude, the P-63 pilot couldn't have seen the bomber until just before impact. What a shame. Godspeed to the crews.

This week at work, I was waiting to get loaded at one of my fairly regular pickups when I heard this fly over:

    upload_2022-11-13_11-13-22.jpg
    upload_2022-11-13_11-14-42.jpg

There were two, actually. The other was painted in a military motif. Not sure the model or if both were the same. There are a couple of restoration operations locally (Oshkosh, WI). I'm guessing both were on some sort of shakedown flights as they flew just around the airport. The sound of those piston engines is neat to hear.

Thanks. Could you get a clear pic of the corner detail whenever you get a chance? Notched posts are a big no-no here, but since I'm not asking for anyone's permission to build it, I can pull that off. I like the way that the rails are notched into the posts.
