    Both cat converters were swiped while my '05 Tacoma TRD was parked at work. Is there a shield or any type of device to keep them protected and avoid a similar incident like this happening in the future? I would appreciate any advice, thanks.

    I looked up the price of cat protectors: +/- $300 plus installation. As I have a $ 100 deductable on my comprehensive insurance it does not seem worthwhile from a fiscal standpoint to buy a converter

    Cus ya know, not having your vehicle driveable, dealing with insurance, making a claim (raised rates) etc is worth 200$.... cmon

    Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

    I made my own cat shields for ~ 45 bucks and a 6 pack of beer to the buddy I borrowed the welder from.

    I've been looking into cat security options as I plan a road trip out west. Never would have guess this would make it to the top of my road trip to-do list lol. Pathetic times we live in. I do not plan on spending a ton of money on this either. There are options out there, which include a $40 "alarm" system from Amazon you can arm when you leave your truck. Seems gimmicky, but its something, and its cheap. I plan on fabricating/welding/bolting some kind of plate together. It is not bullet proof but effective if you can do it affordably. Whatever this looks like, the hope is to deter a thief that might only have one dull sawzall blade, or make him think twice about how long he'll be under there making noise cutting through a skid plate-type thing before he can cut the cats. Thats assuming he doesn't have a socket set to remove the plate lol.

    This! It's not a "millercat" but it saves money and might be enough to deter a thief. Most of which I think are lazy, and either won't want the hassle of cutting this homemade protector, or won't feel like getting a socket set AND an allen set to undo the bolts. And I just had an idea, for an extra "F you", you could integrate a cut-resistant fabric like kevlar, or maybe exhaust wrap? Just around the border of the cat guard or something like that if a thief were to try and cut it. I'm thinking a material that would foul up or "clog" a sawzall blade. Like what happens when a chainsaw runs into chainsaw chaps, it jams up the chain so it won't spin. Maybe I will experiment with this when I get the time.

    Not to mention that OEM cats are presently unobtainium. So if you don’t mind having to have some crappy aftermarket ones put on, well, I know that wouldn’t be my first choice.
