Kilts are always acceptable, even in the white stuff, and as an added bonus you won't need underoos no more. :bananadance:

Good evening, gang. I was busy today bailing out the 30" deep holes going down to the tops of the footers, 2 days of rain had them pretty filled. After that, I decided it would be a good time to back fill/tamp down the fill dirt. The night time temps will be below freezing for the foreseeable future, no use in the dampness down there getting frosty. The fill dirt will insulate it while the dampness absorbs into the surrounding dirt.

Here are a few pics of my goof.

I removed about 3/16" of material ( too much) with the planer while trying to get the joist to sit flush across the deck beam. ( the paint stirring stick is .160" so a "heavy 1/8" or a " light 3/16". The biggest problem that I didn't realize at the time was that the damn joist was twisted a bit. Once I got the straightener tool on the joist, it sat flush. That was where I just stopped last Sunday before I got too angry about it.

Today when I laid a few deck boards across the joists, the gap is huge, like 5/16".

The 3rd joist over is sitting higher then anything around it, so I can knock it down a little to help close down the gap but it's still going to be a big gap, more then I want to suck down with the decking screws. I don't have a plan to un-fuck it yet.

Then the biggest headache is going to be the outer rim joist, since all of these joists are slightly different heights. I'm almost tempted to line up the BOTTOMS of the joists to the rim joist, then plane down the tops to be smooth-ish. There's no way to bend the the joists up and down at the very ends to align to the top of the rim joist. It's been a while since I built a deck, I don't remember the lumber being a big part of the headaches back then.

John Force has a violent engine explosion during final rd eliminations at the Auto Club Finals . He's had some nasty wrecks and engine explosions over his 44 years as a NHRA fuel funny car driver
