When I replaced the center bearing the front half drive shaft flange fell off before I applied any match marks so I used the picture below to try to line things up buy the zerk fittings. Can anyone confirm that was wrong and I should have used an inclinometer on the U joints and made sure they were all at the same angle front to back?

I use the method in this video and it works great!

A tip: wrap your slipshaft in duct tape before you unbolt everything. That way it stays together and has enough slip to telescope in and out to get it reattached.

Thanks @mechanicjon and @slander. I checked angles using the inclinometer method and I’m spot on. I’m getting frustrated chasing vibrations. Just when I think I’ve got the problems solved something else crops up, the latest is really bad when I go over 70 mph. I pulled the slip yoke and checked the rear u-joint and could feel a very slight change in resistance when I rotated it through one axis so I ordered a couple Spicer 5-1510X replacements. While I have the rear on jack stands I’ll run the rear wheels over to the local Firestone to check the balance. Again.

If you have a slight change in resistance in the u joint, for sure replace those. I chased a vibration for a long time, threw everything at it- complete axle rebuild, replaced u joints (eventually replaced the whole Drive shaft out of desperation), balanced wheels and tires (eventually replaced wheels and tires).. after all of that, it ended up being out of round drums. I had them turned when I did the axle rebuild and replaced everything brake related... not sure if they were out of spec, or the shop did a poor job turning them, but I did a second rear brake job and replaced the shoes and drums with Napa parts, and it finally solved my vibration.

Make sure they have a road force tire balancer. If they don't discount tire does.
