So I’m shopping for a low mileage 1GRFE.

My two options currently are a low mileage engine on eBay for 4-5k or a low mileage wrecked Tacoma from Copart for roughly the same cost, dependent on condition.

My preference is a Copart Tacoma as I can easily sell the remaining parts off the truck and be able to recoup most if not all my money but there is certainly some risk their dependent on damage. Then again, most engines off eBay are coming from totaled trucks so the stakes are similar.

If anyone has any leads, let me know. Not a huge rush at all as the truck currently runs great, albeit a P219B Bank 2 cylinder imbalance code supported by low compression on cylinder #6. A very very slight stumble at idle can be noticed as well while in gear and stopped.

I recently rebuilt the top end about 10k ago but I didn’t have my machine shop replace all the valves, just the intake valve on cylinder #5 that was burnt (instructed them to get heads in tip top shape, but didn’t think to have all valves replaced as I should have given reasoning below). They pressure tested them and they passed but I believe that’s what may be contributing to the problem. When I did my compression test, I did it dry, then performed a wet test on the low cylinders with similar results which leads me to the valves causing the loss of compression.

The 15 model 1grfe’s have a recall for bad valves, contributing to the exact issue I have which is why I think the valves/seats are the issue.

Rather than tear it apart again to rebuild I think I would rather replace it hence where I’m at now.

Oh yeah there will be enough room up front with some :sawzall:. Tire was just rolled next to it, not bolted up or anything. It’ll sit a little more forward and ride height will be a little taller. I may be into the headlights if I can squeeze enough uptravel out of a four link and full hydro. We will see.
