Road salt is put down when temps drop below freezing. It's miserable as fuck handling a garden hose or pressure washer in those temps.

In the winter, I run my truck through a touchless automatic car wash every time the temps go above freezing. In Jan/Feb that could mean every two weeks. And there's usually a 45-minute lineup at the car wash.

yeah me too, especially since I may not do this yearly anyway, which probably also voids the warranty.

Krown for the win, just had mine done, they do a great job, and are detailed oriented (get in door jams, and rocker panels), as well as thorough:thumbsup: your price will be locked in as well for your vehicle. I’m paying $147 a year I believe. Yours might be a bit higher as this price was locked in 2 years ago.

Do you have an anti-corrosion treatment, and if so, do you still get a an undercarriage wash at the auto wash?

My brother had ziebart do his 77 trans am when he bought it new. When i looked at it, the surface on the chassis appears same as cosmoline, a hard waxy amber colored surface when i felt, and saw it some years ago. To this day his car hasn't a spec of rust anywhere, it looks like it just came from gm.

Yep. I use CRC Marine, which doesn't wash off as easily as Fluid Film or Krown.

Every fall, after the last wheeling trip of the season, I remove all the skid plates, thoroughly wash the underside of the truck, touch up all the rock scars with rust paint, grease the driveshaft, do an oil change, spray undercoating, and re-install the skids. The undercoating is actually a small portion of the overall job.

I spoke to the Line-X people, and they charge $600, but it's a one time deal with a lifetime warranty. He said they use a tar/asphalt type material, but it doesn't get applied to any moving parts. Anybody have any experience with this or thoughts otherwise on this option?

Id ask them what specific product it is and if they won’t tell you then I’d move on. If I was paying that much money I expect to be able to research the product. Once something like that goes on it’s not going to come off without serious labor.

For example, Toyota also used a “tar” type product during their first Tacoma CRC campaign and it was terrible base level noxudol that was the kill shot for many people’s frames.

So a wax-based coat. I have my personal opinions on wax-based rust prevention. I think if prep is done right they can do what they are supposed to.

The company of origin is advertising it as a one and done product which I don’t believe in.

I also don’t think a harder drying wax coat inside of the frame is a good idea as if any imperfection develops or it actually dries and cracks you’ll get moisture intrusion. A viscous non-wax coat that can creep better on initial spray won’t do that. I think wax coats are better on the visible surfaces where you can inspect it.

    YMMV

Yes you are right, 1 of their 3 products is solvent based asphalt coating which lineX must be using as they described to you.

My salient points are the same.

    The product sounds like zeibart.

    Good luck.

I once saw a garage use this plastic roof cement they must of got from a roofing supply company. It ended up causing more issues down the road than if nothing was applied. This stuff sounds similar like a rubberized coating.

I'd hope Line-X would have a better reputation than Joe Bobs garage.

Id venture to guess that most use linex for bed coating as opposed to undercoating. Where bed coating can easily be inspected and generally doesnt get blasted with salt....like the undercarriage does.

Stay the fuck away. It'll kill your frame faster than not having undercoating. Once sprayed on it'll also be very difficult to remove, gumming up wire brushes.

    LOL...
I had that shit on an old 69 Coronet that I was going to restore. Took me about 3 months to heat, soften, and scrape that shit off. And it was probly full of toxins and other junk. I assume I lost at least a year of my life breathing in some of that shit. Also, it was rusted as hell underneath once I did get it off. Of course that was a 30 year old car at the time so not apples to apples. Still, that stuff is a no go in my book.

I have no experience with these folks. I've only seen a few locals rave about it. They used to be a Ziebart franchise a long time ago. Guess at some point they moved to whatever this is. I will warn you: it isn't cheap. I believe average is around $1k. One portion of their process is charged hourly, so it could be more, it could be less. But I would plan on at least $1k.
