Hey everyone, new here, 2022 electric lime taco. bought it in April this year with 3 miles on it, i have 32,600 miles now! I work 500 miles from home and go home on the weekends, so a thousand miles a week minimum. So lots of cruise control time. But the truck almost refuses to go into 6th gear with cruise control on, it stays in 5th at about 2700 rpm (78mph) or down shifts to 4th at 3500 rpm at the slightest incline, and takes FOREVER to shift back to fifth. This makes my MPG about 14.8-15.2 for the 500 mile trip. I have done the trip a few times without cruise control, and the truck stays in 6th gear (unless I'm speeding up to pass someone or something like that) and ill get about 19 mpg. That's almost a 25% waste of MPG by using the cruise control. has anyone else experienced this? is it something that can be fixed? any help is much apricated!

My cruise stinks also, it wants to stay around 2500. And downshifts at any incline and takes forever to up shift. I attribute it to the poor tuning. I am thinking of having a tune flashed on to address this

I don't use cruise control though. Never been a fan of it, I'll drive 700 miles on a single trip and not use it

The cruise control on both my 2022 Tacomas is equally worthless as the OP describes.

A tune won’t address the adaptive cruise from what I read. It *may* address the normal non-adaptive cruise depending on the tuner.

I’m tuned, and am still less than impressed with the cruise control, both versions. My wife’s rdx on the other hand, is butter smooth and responsive. I just override the braking on occasion with the skinny pedal when people pass us. Keeps it from braking for 3 seconds when they pull in front.

Same. Im always amazed just how terrible the cruise is in these trucks.

This is an apples to oranges comparison as I have a 6MT, but I have noticed some very bizarre differences in the two different cruise control modes; for me, whenever I'm out on the open road, I make sure the Adaptive Cruise is turned off before engaging Cruise Control.

How fast are you driving? This truck despises anything north of 70mph.

And yes, the cruise sucks. The newest tunes help.

If it were me, I'd leave the truck at home and get a commuter car. But that's me.

Most of the interstate highways around here are 75 mph speed limits.

    Oh look, another mod....
Your excessive speed is the major contributor to your horrible MPG's. I have set the cruise (not the adaptive) on long drives. I set it at 65 - 70mph. I can easily get 22mpg that way.

Stop driving so fast and expecting sedan-like MPG's out of your truck.

I never use adaptive cruise control, as it sucks. I learned that on my initial drive home from the dealership when I first picked it up! But I then learned about what I call, "Classic Cruise Control", which is just holding in the button for a couple of seconds to activate it. While the truck will downshift at the slightest hill, and then search for gears and stay there too long when speed is attained, still, it has gotten way better since about 10,000 mile mark. A lot has to do with how you drove the truck for the first 10,000 miles, while it was "learning" your driving habits. I am getting insanely great gas mileage for my truck, especially considering it is 6cyl automatic and a big truck, or at least, bigger than my first generation 96 tacoma! It actually gets better mileage than that did! So I am totally happy with mine.

This. All day, assuming moving isn't an option (and I know sometimes it's not).

I mean your spending 15-16 hours a week on the road. Not to mention the wear on your new now rapidly depreciating truck, fuel costs etc.

Go to KD MAX website, to find closest Tuner.

Your need for speed will burn a hole in your wallet. But it's your truck and your money, do what you will.

But don't get on the internet to bitch & complain about a self inflicted problem.

I did 5400 milea cross country this summer. Mountains made the cruise suck ass. But whne it was 80mph speed limit, i got behind semi's and went 65. Around here in ohio, 60 to 70, cruise ia fine. Even in PA.

They can be 80 mph limits around here, I'll still cruise at 70, or even 65 when pulling the trailer. And no, you don't get rear ended when crawling in the right lane. Actually the opposite, NOBODY tailgates you. Its nice. :cookiemonster:

Get into your regional threads and ask for the recommended tuner closest to you. It's still a bit of a cottage industry at this point. https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/regions.36/ Meet some fellow Tacoma enthusiasts in person!

As someone who drives almost all of I95 once per year I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact you WILL get an automatic ticket going through Maryland for doing 12 over the speed limit there (Limit 65).

That said the mileage does seem a little low. I was in a bit of a speedy mood on my last 1200 mile road trip and even cruising between 80 and 85 I could get 16.5MPGs. And with the M/T gearing that was at about the same RPMs.
