Thoughts on Rough Country 3 inch lift

Hey guys, looking to get this lift as it’s affordable. I know many people talk bad about it off road, but my truck is 2wd and only sees dirt every now and again. Not worried about the “performance” as it’s mostly on pavement. Will this wear out any components quicker? and if so than how quick? Truck is just a daily driver and would like to upgrade the look. Thanks guys.

 

There is a guy local to me that posts pictures of stock shocks blowing out after being used with spacer lifts. The bottom mounting point gets cockeyed for some reason, resulting in the shock being totaled.

This is second-hand anecdotal evidence, so take it for what it's worth.

 

I feel like that would mostly be caused from off roading too hard with a spacer lift, could be wrong though.

That is entirely possible. I didn't want to risk it with my daily driven truck, so I opted for a proper lift with (relatively) affordable components. Buy once cry once and all that.

 

I ran a spacer lift for years before switching to my LT set up and I never had a single issue.

 

Weird. Usually by this point at least 3 people would've recommended Bistein 5100's....

8+ years & 200k+ miles on a spacer lift, been off-road plenty and I've never had any issues as mentioned above. Maybe I'm just that lucky, lol not. If you are sensible off road you will be fine. If you think you now have a trophy truck, you may experience issues such as a blown out shock tower lol.

Yes, you'll wear out things a bit faster after a lift. How much faster? Just depends.

 

Any lift will cause issues with your old ball joints and springs.

You're adding spacers to old coils and leaf springs then forcing hard angles on old ball joints.

It's not ideal for an old truck. I usually decline these installs and recommend new coils and leaf springs.

Spacers are fine for daily driving and mild offroading, ignore the fear mongers on here. Your problem is the age of the existing components

Not a damn thing wrong with them. For the money you really can't beat 5100s. It just always makes me laugh that they seem to appear in every suspension related thread

 

My trucks an 07’ with 101,000 miles. Suspension never has seen vigorous off road, pretty much all pavement. How much would replacement parts cost? (such as ball joints, coils, leaf springs, etc.)

 

Yep! It is pretty fun, can’t knock on them though. Always positive reviews from people running them.

 

It was pretty expensive. The lift kit alone was like 1600, with new coilovers, leaf packs, and rear shocks. Plus the ECGS bushing, UCAs, and some other parts that I bought in a fit of paranoia.

I figured no daily driver = no transport to work = no job, so it was cheaper in the long run to do it right the first time.

I’m pretty sure all spacer lifts behave the same way, assuming they’re the same size. Looks like stock shocks.

 

I’ll probably upgrade within the next 5 years and just do all of it. Can’t wait till then though. Got the itch. I appreciate the response man!

 

Had it on my 11’ sport for years with no issues with my light off road. The only problem I had was on the road. Mostly because of my driving habits. With the control arms tweaked that hard it changed weight distribution. With a “hard brake” at a stop sign I had less stopping stopping power due the the weight not on the front tires. Also, if you live on super curvy banked roads ie 76,160,125 HWY’s in south west Missouri and you drive like me you will need slow down. You will push through the corner. Just a heads up.
