Amp harness for 2022 Tacoma needed

So what I did was cut the harness into two pieces. I then ran speedwire down to the amp under my seat and a second speedwire back to behind the radio. So it comes out of the back of the radio, down the center console to the amp. Then out of the amp back up the center console and plugs into the plug that would have normally gone to the radio. Basically just made a big loop with the amp in-between the radio and speakers.

 

So I found an amp and it is installed. Do you still need a mic?

 

I called up kicker and ordered a replacement. It cost about the same as it would have to ship a borrowed one back and forth. Really appreciate the offer though. I'm hoping to get mine installed tomorrow!

 

Well I definitely understand. I had trouble finding a amp. A lot of places were out of stock. Sorry I couldn’t get it to you but I’m glad it was inexpensive to buy and now you have your own. Let me know what you think of it.

 

Did you guys need to use a Converter between the Amp and the Stereo to convert the Stereo Signal power to an RCA signal?

Are most amps able to handle the signal without a converter?

My 2022 sounds so bad. The 2017 I had sounded waaaaay better.

 

the appropriate answer here is "it depends".

many newer amps now handle high level and low level on the same set of inputs and will either auto-switch, or there's a toggle switch to hit, and others take low level only.

i also ran across on another forum where a competent audio installer was talking about how newer vehicles have such low level speaker signals that it's really a 'low level' signal in aftermarket audio terms, so he didn't need the converters, despite not doing it the prescribed method.

 

Would this work with the Kicker 47KEYLOC? Plug and play, minus the amp wiring. I just want to add a single powered subwoofer.

 

Based on going through quite a few threads on the Kicker and Alpine compact amps I believe this is what is needed to build a "t-harness" for the '20 and up non JBL radios. I plan on installing a small 4 channel sub to my '22.

I'm pretty confident it's all we need to use an amp with the factory radio. I've sifted through enough of his posts to gather that he's knowledgeable on the subject.

Could this harness be used with the Kicker Key?
Also, if I'm amplifying the stereo speakers and adding one powered sub, is the correct setup?

 

Sorry didn't notice this right away. With the PAC one there is no cutting. They give you a harness that has the front and rear speaker channels split by a 4 pin connectors. They also spliced in power extensions that provide for a constant 12v, accessory 12v, and ground. Too make it really easy they give you various loose wires with a 4 pin connectors on one end. That manual you posted is outdated. The newest revision is 8/19/2022. No cutting is needed if you want to setup a monoblock or multichannel amp.

To hook up your amp you just unplug both the front and rear channel from each other on the harness they provide. Then plug in the 4 pin connectors with the loose wire on the end. One set of loose wires goes in the input side of the amp, and the other set goes into the output side of the amp. Each wire has a description for the channel it represents and whether it goes into the amp or comes from the amp.

The red wolf adapter posted around here seem like the cheapest option. This one is just basically too easy to screw up and gives you the power extension for remote, constant, and ground so you don't need to tap into the fuse box or splice a wire on the harness.

If I were to do everything again, I'd probably just get that $14 wolf adapter. Especially if I already had the wire and adapter to tap a fuse.

 

This is all so complicated to me. I wish I just could find a YouTube video or a diagram of how all this goes together.

 

I'm just learning too and understand the feeling. I've just been reading, reading, watching videos, and reading some more. I only installed a powered amp but will be trying to add new speakers and a second amp soon. I think one of the hardest parts for me was just running a 4 gauge wire through the firewall. After setting up that powered sub, I have much more confidence. I've had it installed for a month or so and really dig it.

Personally my first step would be to install a sub before a kicker key. If you're trying to save as much storage as possible, there are a few powered subs that fit in the plastic trays without mods. That being said, if I had a time machine, I'd seriously consider buying a used amp and sub. I'd wait until someone on here or locally sold something at a decent price. In the meantime you can just be reading more, watching more videos, etc. Google five star audio tacoma and watch their youtube videos. I think after watching those I'll try and build an amp rack that is similar.

https://www.diymobileaudio.com/ is another great resource. I feel like there is a lot of group think around tacomaworld about replacing the tweeters with the subaru ones and buying a kicker key.

 

i've noticed a ton of fear around here of a dual extreme-- there's this encouragement to 'color inside the lines' with only plug-n-play stuff, while there's a small group that colors so far outside the lines, that they're literally setting wheelbarrows of money on fire, which seems to encourage everyone else to color inside the lines because it's so expensive to deviate.

 

Any thoughts on this?
