    I realize this is an old thread, but it seems to be relevant to my question.


    Those that are running the King coilovers, are these the ones you're running?

    Is there a set that have the remote resi like the 05+ models? If not, why exactly is that? I'm guessing the front suspension on the 05+ is quite a bit different?

    I've also noticed that King makes rear shocks for the 05+ tacomas, but not for my 02... Has anyone adapted these to the 1st gen trucks? Or are the regular bilstien shocks enough for everyone?



    Just trying to get all my info together. I was going to purchase the Camburg Coilovers and UCAs, but upon reading about them and SAW, it seems that they don't really compare to the King coilovers. If the Kings are really that much better, I'll go with them.


    Also, if King doesn't make a remote resi coilover for the 1st gen trucks, is there a company out there that does? Fox? Icon?

    AFAIK, the King's have an internal resevoir for the 1st gen, not remote.
    Fox makes a remote resi c/o both in standard and mid travel (aftermarket UCA required).

    I've got the Fox mid travel remote resi's on my truck.

    I think Icon might they also make a remote resi (stage III or something?), but I've never seen one.

    As for the rear, going along your theme of wanting remote resi's, the Bilstein 5150 have a piggyback resi if you want something a little nicer than the regular 5100's.

    I have the Total Chaos UCAs. If you wanna save yourself 200 bucks, get the Camberg ones. Functionally equivalent, just a different color. I like that the TC's are similar in color as the Fox c/o's though.

    The fox mid's are great. The resevoir is huge though, probably twice the size of the resevoir my buddy has with his King's on his FJ. It was a little too close for compfort to my tires so I ended up having the lines extended. I mounted the resevoirs to welded brackets on the front crossmember (well protected behind the skidplate). Below are a couple glamour shots of what I'm talking about.

    Nice. Do you have a part number for those Fox coilovers? I may end up copying your setup... :D

    I bought the truck with a 3" Revtec spacer lift, and from what I've read, it leaves a lot to be desired in ride quality.

    Also, any trouble out of your Uniball UCAs? I'm guessing that the Uniball is a lot stronger than a Balljoint, but I've heard there is more maintenance involved. As long as said maintenance is just occasional cleaning/lubricating, then I'm fine with that.
    Reason I say this, is because there will be times where I'm on the road for a couple months straight (have an Alaska trip planned) and I would like to keep this thing as reliable as possible.

    Uniball's are great. Maintenence is a snap. Bushings have zirk fittings and the ball joint is easy to grease. Little bit of lube goes a long way (that's what she said). :D

    I have king shocks front and rear, the rears are new models I am one of the first to own em the new rears I have are bypass shocks w/remote res, the fronts are just coilovers no extra res there. They're very smooth! Hey j berry were you able to put you're ucas on yoursself, cause my friend told me the upper ball joint on the spindles are press out only ,is that tru?+ some are supposed to be really hard to press out on some years cmpared to others I was told the spindles could take up to a 50 ton press to get off you're upper ball joints.... Is that tru that's all that's holding me back from my final setup?

    Unless anyone knows of a better deal out there, it looks like I will be ordering that kit. I'm excited to see the difference it makes over the 3" spacer lift!


    Also, regarding Skillet's post, I'd like to know if that upper ball joint is a bear to press out. I can do the install of coilovers/UCAs by myself, but if that ball joint is a pain I'll just take it somewhere.

    It's not too difficult as you are not reusing the ball joints. My solution was a socket and a Ford tool (big fucking hammer). :cool:

    I am running Kings and made no adjustments to them got right about 2.5 inches of lift but like mentioned no external resi. Also They did just cone out with a rear 2.5 resi shock for the rear on our trucks. Talk to DSMS about it.

    Damn nice set up. Those are what they call the triple by pass correct? I would have no need for those since I don't think I would get long travel but I would like a nice set of resis out back for off roading.:)

    Actually they are a 2.5x16" double bypass. Only one compression and one rebound tube. Tripple bypass have an additional compression tube. Custom from Giant Motorsports:
