If its for the Specialized it will take a 34.9 dropper or a 31.6/30.9 with a sleeve. I've done it both ways without issue. The benefit to a 31.6 is its a more common size and will fit other brands frames. Specialized is the only one I know using 34.9 droppers at the moment.

    Run what you brung son!

If it were me I’d go 31.6 if you’re buying from scratch. But that’s solely for more flexibility to use on frames in the future. If you’re planning to keep the bike for years, or sell as a complete, go with the spesh specific fatty.

34.9mm dropper is 1/4LB heavier than the same length in 31.6mm. Just food for thought.. #weightweenie

Yeah…. But that sleeve isn’t light either. I suppose I could find a carbon sleeve somewhere…

I would go for what you can readily find the cheapest.

When I bought my 34.9 AXS it was during pandemic craze and it was the only diameter in stock.

I’d likely keep the bike for quite a while and, if I do sell, it’s go with whatever dropper is on there. I like the PNW Loam at the moment. They seem to be having some size/color availability issues though.

In my waistline or the bike? I mean, there’s no way I’m drilling that brand new carbon frame!

Gravel bike came in and absolutely love it so far. There's a nice rail trail near me that goes 30 miles down and aiming to do the down and back before it gets too cold......

Yes, Gnarvana. Setup with a 160mm fork.

TL;DR: It’s awesome but has some quirks depending on your riding style/skill and your size.

    long answer:
Fit: I'm 5'9" and I am riding a Size 3. The seat tube is long and I'm riding a 180mm Oneup V2 almost slammed (about 10mm exposed). I cannot run it slammed (because the seatpost clamp puts too much pressure on the dropper and it binds) but found I don't need to because of the more upright seated position. The reach feels really good even in the long position. The very upright seated position helps keep it from feeling too stretched out. I haven't experimented with the geo-adjust headset

The reason I didn't get a Size 3 is because the chainstays are really long on this bike, like 450mm. A size 2 has a reach of like 444, which I thought would be funky to have a longer rear than front. I did not demo this bike before I bought it but sat on a buddys size 3 and it felt fine so I just sent it.

Frame details: I really appreciate the mostly external routing. The rear brake routing is perfect and the clips that hold the line are genius. The cable channel could be improved. It's not really big enough for three cables. Getting everything stuffed in there and the cover fitted is a little tricky. Additionally, since the dropper cable runs on the left side, it sticks out kinda funny at the bars. If you had an AXS Reverb or AXS derailleur or both then the cable channel external routing would be incredible.

The water bottle placements could be improved. I don't like the under top tube placement. I was able to fit a normal side load change in the lower position but can only run a Polar 16oz bottle. I'll probably mount a tool, pump, etc. to the upper position.

The geo-adjust headset is pretty cool but coupled with a long-ish headtube, you need a decent amount of fork steer tube. I had to buy a new fork because my old one was too short.

It's relatively heavy. The frame is probably about 1-1.5 lbs heavier than most other carbon fiber frames but it seems extremely stout. It appears to be reinforced in many key areas. Frame weight matters much less when you start bolting on heavy parts like a Zeb, DH tires, etc.

Riding: I ride mostly steep up/down trails with lots of rocks. My preference is for long, low, and slack. Especially chainstays. Longer chainstays make it easier to stay centered on the bike. The long reach allows you to really move the bike around and really lean it over. All this means the bike has insane traction and stability. It's very comfortable to ride fast. It's a big bike so slow switchbacks can be a little tricky. You just have to be a little more aggressive and mindful keeping your weight over the front of the bike.

Jumping feels great but that has more to do with suspension setup IMO. I can pick the front end up just fine but it's impossible to hold a manual for longer than a parking space or two.

I would be just fine on a Smash (145mm rear travel) but I wanted the carbon swingarm and the 0mm dish wheel offset. I heard they will eventually offer the smash with a carbon swingarm but I don't know the timeline.

Thanks man its awesome to hear a real review for GG bikes, Its surprisingly hard to find good reviews for the bikes despite GG getting alot of news in the mtb world. I have heard about how heavy it is they use that unique revved carbon molding which apparently makes far more stout and strong bike frames. Still very interested in their bikes. Still very cool to see american made frames from a small company that is getting good results!
