In my experience it doesn’t take much to total out a bike. When I got hit, the rear brake lever and foot peg was snapped off and broke the mounting bolts off in the frame. They considered that frame damage and totaled it. Looking back, I could have fought to keep the sporty because it was completely repairable and mostly cosmetic.

Either way, hoping for a speedy recovery man.

I used to ride all the time in work boots or hiking boots. Ever have the loop of your shoestring somehow get caught on your shifter peg or brake pedal? Or the little tang on your side stand? I had one of the metal speed lace things near the top of the boot catch on my tail bag once dismounting my FJR and damned near pulled the bike over on top of myself. Thank goodness another rider was right there at the time and grabbed my bike while I hopped on one foot back towards it. I bought proper riding boots about 2 weeks later and will never again ride in any shoes with laces. Zip up and Velcro closures over the zippers now for me. Added ankle support and protection too.

These were my old shoes when I would daily the motorcycle to work. With jeans coming down over them they looked like a standard black shoe.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyRbXkWTEO8

Doesn't look like they are made anymore though.

It's funny I actually have a sneaker that I wear as my daily "nice sneaker" that's actually an MC rated shoe that I got purely because I liked its style and not as a riding shoe per say.

Because it's a "riding" sneaker it's got thicker soles so they might feel a little clunky but I just liked the way they looked. The extra bonus was if I put them on and took the bike for a haircut I had some protection too. I can't stand regular sneakers on the bike. Never enough support on the pegs, and the shifter always dug into my toes.

Never dealt with the shoe strings on the bike simply because I rarely wear them, it’s definitely a legitimate concern though, these are what I wear 6 days/week.
    image.jpg

I looked at those on Revzilla but I don’t believe that they had my size, they look like they would be comfortable, and I like the thicker soles.

I have an earlier version of these.

With the type of riding I do, waterproof is a definite must and I wanted something I could walk in comfortably as well. I did a few long distance rallies where the bonus location could be a half mile walk each way from the closest possible parking area. My feet are kind of wide so most of the European boots were too snug at the widest part of my foot. I bought my first pair right from the Revzilla location in Philly.

@uurx - Tough guy takin' pics as he's being loaded into the ambulance!:rofl: Here's to a speedy recovery!

My fave boots are a pair of Icons that have a latch strap across the laces at the top. Super comfortable, super durable, not to mention stylish, and have lasted me going on 5+ years. Would buy another pair in a heartbeat but... not made anymore. I hate that.

It's called dynacast. The new stuff doesn't have to be wet. Wetting it makes it heavy and the only upside is that it hardens quicker. We don't do full casts in the ER. Maybe the ortho docs pitched a fit.....not really sure. I was always under the impression It's b/c of swelling that could occur later.

We do what is basically a half cast with ace wrap

I swear mine have saved me from several broken bones at this point. Can't recommend the Alpine Stars Tech 7's enough.

ya mine was from my wrist to my elbow! it was a bit nuts!!! but ya that stuff they sprayed it with like a mist and then let it mold to my wrist on both top and bottom and boom it was hard as a rock (hehe thats what she said) but ya they did allow me to loosen it if it got to tight but not take it off fully until after surgery.... but it could have been with how my break was on my wrist since i broke it in two points and it was very painful but :notsure:
the thing i do know is when the lady was wrapping my wrist up she kept moving the wrist and my collar bone and i had to tell her either take a break or im gonna A. punch you or B. throw up on you... i was in a load of pain and she was just making it so much worse!

I had to make a long leg splint the other day(pt had 2 breaks in the ankle and one right below the knee. It went from back of mid thigh all the way down and under the ankle. That one was a mother fucker to do.

Had a sugar tong on an arm today. Basically cover the top of the hand, go around the elbow down to the bottom of the hand. Arm has to be bent at 90 degrees.

Good boots aren't cheap but in an accident they're priceless! My riding boots are the most expensive footwear I've ever bought. I balked for quite a while about the prices but once I bit the bullet and finally bought a pair I never looked back. First pair lasted me over 5 years so breaking it down came out to less than $60 per year for comfort, dry feet even in near hurricane conditions, and peace of mind.

You don't even need to spend that much to get some decent boots. I've never been a big fan of Cycle Gear's Bilt brand personally but my g/f didn't want to spend the kind of money I did and she doesn't ride nearly the miles I put in. She found a pair of Bilt boots thar fit her well and she liked for $80 that are supposed to be waterproof. To be safe a can of camp-dry waterproofing spray and her feet have stayed dry through quite a few miles of rain and the first pair held up surprisingly well when we got hit in TN back in 2019. SHe bought another pair just like the first.

I have been working on updating my gear. I picked up some AlpineStar boots when I got my bike. They are really comfortable, like Nike or Adidas sneaker comfy. They are vented which really reduces my foot stank.

I also just picked up a jacket from Motorcard for a great price. Waiting for it to arrive. They also had some Dainse at great pricing if anyone is looking.

Only problem now is I don’t own pants, just shorts. Floridian in me.
