BIG PROBLEM SOMEBODY HELP

Whats up guys. Its been awhile since I've posted anything on here but I hope everything is going well with everyone. I have been super busy with school and work but today I drove to work and came back to my house. Just went outside to go to school and my truck will not switch out of park. I have an automatic transmission. The gear shifter will not move when I press the button down. What could this be and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance!

 

have you ever taken the shifter off?

 

See that little clip thing on the base of the shifter? I'm pretty sure you can take a flat head and pry it up and it will shift it out. I could be completely talking out of my ass but I think I remember my dad saying something like that once.

 

At the top of the shift plate is a plastic cap, removed the cap with a screwdriver and underneath is a plastic button. Depress button with a ballpoint pen, it should release from park.

 

so the button is depressed but the shifter won't budge? or are you having trouble getting the button to press down

I have a similar problem w/ my truck in that my truck does not recognize that the brake is depressed and won't let me press the button down in order to shift into gear. does this sound familiar?

 

I do this almost every day, i permanently removed the black cover and just use my finger to depress the little button. Seems to be easier when its warmer out and take a few tries when its cold.

While we're on the topic, what does that little button do? How can it help shift out of park?

 

Same thing happened to me check your fuse box to see if any are blown

 

The brake has to be down when you shift out of park. *just in case.

Thanks guys I got it to shift out of park with the flat head screwdriver but am I going to have to use the screwdriver every time?

 

Thanks for the input man haha but yeah I havent been on the forum that much lately. Been really busy with school and work but I have been pretty good. Really cant complain how about you?

 

Also I wanted to know if it is bad for my truck to use the screwdriver over and over again to get it out of gear. I check the transmission fluid and it is good to go. Idk what else I can do.

 

theres a selanoid type thing in there when you push the brake down, do you hear a "click" from the shifter? Thats probably bad.

 

Yeah I do hear a click everytime I press the brake. So the selanoid is done for your saying?

 

haha my truck i cant shift it out of park any time. . . lol. guess my little solenoid thing is just very loving.

the exact thing happend to by brothers tacoma and i just replaced a blown fuse and it worked just fine after that, ive read that a break line or something is also tied into that circuit and when the fuse blows its all locks up...
