    This, unfortunately.

The local Hyundai dealership put exactly zero effort into selling us a vehicle because he knew that anything they get is sold before it hits the lot. At full MSRP if not above.

I know that and understand it, hopefully cash will talk and help us. Or it may hurt us, who knows :annoyed:

You actually get a better deal financing as the dealers get kick backs from finance companies and credit unions. Cash no longer talks.

I went across the road this afternoon to look around for sign where I shot the buck. I think I found the little spiker I was seeing. :(

After I typed that I thought about it. You’re right. We may be better off to finance it and just pay it off.

Honestly all car brands have their issues. Fords 1.5, 2.0, and 2.3 EcoBoomBoost engine head gasket issues, Chevy's AFE5.3 fiasco that is still going on today, along with their modern truck transmissions going out at a rapid rate. Nissan is the Chrysler of Japan. Hyundai's early adoption of Direct Injection was/is a miserable failure, along with manufacturing issues with several of their engines over the years.... Toyota's terrible shift programming across several models. Not to mention if you look at a Tacoma frame wrong it'll rust out

EDIT: We're not even gonna talk about Chrysler/Jeep/Ram. I don't have enough time this evening to go over that...

It's the same around here for discounts, although it seems to be easing a bit. When I bought our car in the spring, the best I could do was a full tank of gas and free delivery from a hour and a bit away.

I didn't even get a full tank of gas when I got the Subaru. They said they don't do that anymore and handed me a $10 Dunkin' gift card o_O

When the guy dropped off the Elantra, he said "the tank isn't full but it was when we left St. Cloud" (FYI that's almost 3 hours away).

I couldn't really argue with that.

As the "2022 Save the Iron" road trip season comes to an unfortunate close I squeaked in one more run on Monday.

About 270 miles round trip to grab this Wisconsin TJD twin built in June of 1974.

    KIMG2699.jpg

Guess it hadn't run for a while...

    KIMG2701.jpg

Quite a while... I don't think ethanol had anything to do with the rust in this fuel tank.

    KIMG2702.jpg

Oil bath air cleaner - or maybe sludge bath. Banged up but complete.

    KIMG2708.jpg

This has a vehicle type exhaust manifold, not so common, these were found on forklifts and such where the operator sat over the engine

    KIMG2706.jpg

Big honking set of pulleys on this, I think it started out on a mower or similar, part of a sticker says about operation on slopes and setting the parking brake.

The very nice young fellow I got it from said it came on an edge saw he purchased.

    KIMG2707.jpg

Electric start and a charging system, magneto ignition however. Note the stylish "air cooled" logo on the ammeter.

    KIMG2705.jpg

As usual the 1946 forklift does the heavy work.

    KIMG2710.jpg

Safe and sound on the ground - on a brand new HF wheelie base, these sit perfectly on them.

    KIMG2712.jpg

It was a great day for a road trip. :)

Guess it's about time to park Ginger for the season, snow and the salt that follows it is right around the corner!

We got some today and it was pretty nasty for a little bit. Kinda interesting to watch this year as I'm on a main road this year. PennDot almost slammed their truck into the light pole across the street. That was an interesting noise.

Despite having a winter weather advisory they waited till the day of to put plows on and load salt. They didn't finally come around till dark. I'm guessing all the good CDL drivers work for other people now. Glad I have the Subaru and Tacoma with new tires. Subaru will be great for the lighter slushy stuff and some icing. Truck will be used for deeper stuff. Ran the Subie up and down the mountain today and they did salt that, so I gotta run through the touchless car wash that has undercarriage spray Thursday before heading into work.

I saw this uncommon truck along the way. A Dodge LCF - low cab forward, although it isn't all that low or forward, that is what they called them.
The lowest rated units were in the same weight class as an F-600, the range continued up to over the road tractors.

These were built between 1960 - 76, unusually the cab was from the 1956 - 60 Dodge pickup truck, and used for the entire run.

Gasoline & diesel engines were offered, this one being a diesel.

The fenders were hinged by the grille to swing away for engine access, quite an innovation before tilt front ends were common.
