Whatever

One more of the pumping station. Back in the 1930’s, they rerouted a creek underground and this is where it comes out. About a half mile downstream, it empties into the river.
I grew up hanging around this area and went back there today. The last time I saw this place was about 40 years ago. I took the pup for a walk there and the memories came back like it was yesterday. I never realized how much of my childhood was spent here doing dangerous things in a dangerous place. I caught the biggest trout of my life here, almost drowned when I slipped and the hip boots that I was wearing were way too big for me. I was about 11 or 12 and took my grandfathers boots fishing so I can get in closer to the big ones. A friend and I went behind the gate and jumped down a concrete wall to explore the overflow gates. When it came time to get out, we couldn’t get back up the wall and it got dark. Real dark. To finally get out, I got down on all fours and my friend ran and used my back to help launch him up enough to get onto the wall. Then he went down the road knocking on doors and a guy came and held down his hand and yanked me up the wall. I also hung here with my first girlfriend that I ever had. On and on the memories came back. Sadly, a lot of the people who were part of those days, are no longer here. It was a roller coaster ride for sure.

Ps. I pissed my initials on the wall… just like the old days. (Except there are cameras there now) Fugg em.

There's still a couple around here. There's a blue one on my route to the dump. I laugh every time.
