I was surprised when we bought the wife’s new 4 runner earlier this year that the tank was full when we hopped in. Didn’t think they would when gas was almost 6 bucks a gallon at the time.

I drove her home in a light snow tonight, there is probably 2" on the hill now. The insurance goes dormant at the end of the month.

I guess I better get the Cherokee serviced and the studded tires on the old daily van... :pout:

You are going to enjoy the Subaru, they are tremendously capable cars, Mrs Green loves hers.

    I hate winter.

Ok, serious question. Is insurance that much on the truck where you take it off during the winter?

Also, PennDot can pull your tags for that too. Depending on finance companies they'll try and repo it for that as well.

Not trying to crap on anyone's parade, just genuinely curious.

Also, we do love the Subie. I just wish I had the $1400 for a set of spare wheels and snow tires. That would be an unstoppable force. Unfortunately steelies won't work as the brake caliper is pretty darn big up front and needs the clearance.

I vote for burning the place down.
Hey all....we making electricity! Sync to the grid this afternoon.
@Bivouac there is a local interstate battery dealer in town and I've had good luck with them as well.
The store tested my battery and said it checks out good, have to see if it does ok. When I reinstall it, I hooked up a maintainer right along with it. Weird to because after I brought the battery back from the store I put my charger on it whilst removed from the truck and it charged fine; no bad battery indicator light.
    :fingerscrossed: tomorrow last night shift!

Isn't it a AGM battery? If so you gotta do some modifications to get it to charge right in a 3rd gen. Might be the issue there if you didn't.

The truck is still fully insured, you can get a break with a seasonal use vehicle by having 3 consecutive months of non use in the year. You get to pick the months. Mine are Dec, Jan, Feb. The wagon is the same.

It is useful for collector vehicles, motor homes, snowbirds who go to Florida and leave vehicles behind, etc.

Yes it is AGM in third gen...
How did a Optima Yellow Top last for 18 years in my brother's 80's Volvo?
I read a little bit about AGM batteries and not working correctly:confused:
Same battery type working just fine in 2016 Rubicon.

    Ok, that makes sense.

I was considering when I still had the GTI to go to storage insurance on it during the winter months as I did not drive it at all in the snow/salt if I could help it, but sold it before doing it. Wish I woulda kept that thing. It would get 36mpg if I kept it outta that boost and 33 if I drove it moderate. The only thing was I put premium/E85 in it during the summer and mid grade in the colder months. Kinda pricey...

Optima Yellow Top batteries used to be good, that's why

We have some AGM batteries in a couple electric tugs at work that are $800 a piece. And they take 6 of them! o_O We are slowly converting them to regular flooded batteries. Although changing the onboard chargers properties is a total pain in the ass! Because I'm the automotive guy I get to do 95% of all this work. Oh joy...

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Coworker has one and seems pretty happy with it. She was looking for a full size Suburban when she drove one and bought that day.

The Cherokee gets mid grade year round, as it gets 14 - 15 in town that gets pricey too.
The F-250 has 2 tanks, I put 87 in one and 89 in the other, when towing on a hill i change to the 89 tank, it worked quite well to keep the knocks away.

At the job I had a Cushman warehouse tug that used 6 volt golf cart batteries, we could get just about 4 years of all day use from them.

If I could have gotten the operators to plug the damn thing in over lunch they probably would have made it 5.

I'm probably gonna be doing the battery shuffle here soon. The Subaru is cranking kind of slow IMO. It's the OEM battery from when it was manufactured in 2018 and only has 490CCA. I know it's only a 2.5 litre boxer engine, but it's got a ton of electronics. I know it's only a matter of time and keep a lithium jump pack in the boot. It will be getting an East Penn/Deka pending they have one at the place I go to.

We go to NY, for years they were more expensive, now it is 20 - 30 cents cheaper.

I paid $3.55 the other day to fill up the truck, whereas it was $4.15 in town where I live. The place I get my fuel from also sells the ethanol free 90 octane and offroad diesel. So the other day I filled up my mower can and grabbed 5 gallons of offroad to throw in the "oil" tank. Pretty darn convenient.

They also have some of the best fried chicken in the area. The ladies behind the food counter are always a riot (in a good way). I got a couple chicken breast one time and the lady was like "they some big tiddies today!"

Always get an order of gizzards and they're cooked to perfection IMO. Yea, not for everybody, but I love them and it's funny to see the look on my co-workers face.

    I'll say this about Kia's....
My buddy has a Kia (car, not sure what) that he bought new in '14 I believe. He drives 74 miles one way to work.
At 250k he got a check engine light, took it to dealer, dealer said his motor was shot and he needed a new one. But....it was a recall; he got a new motor (no charge).....I asked him the other day what his mileage was....330,000.
