noob to tacoma's(wanting to buy) please help

hey everyone, i am not new to forums, just new to this one. i know everyone hates noobs and nobody likes their stupid questions. BUT i want to learn because i plan to buy one as soon as i can.

i will get a white or dark blue(trd sport(for color matching parts), 4wd.


so my questions are....

i plan to get it lifted as soon as i pick it up. i know 3" is a basic lift and will prob get that. but is it a kit or do i need to buy all kinds of other things to go along with it?

so with a 3" lift, what size wheels/tires should i purchase?

How much is a 6" lift compared to 3"?


again, sorry for being a noob, i tried to search but i have so many questions. that a knowledgable guy can answer easy.

4cyl 2WD more mpg than 4cyl 4WD.
The OEM alloy wheels come with the 4WD SR5 pkg.

I know nothing about lift pkgs, as I keep my truck stock.

 

ok so whats the benefit in the v6 other than power? would a v6 4wd be the best or fastest i guess for more power

 

Single cabs only come with 4cyl. I don't know what cab your looking for but tacomas have 3 options. I would suggest getting the v6 if you every want to pull anything and since your planning on lifting it. Both engines are great and both will last a long time.

There is a build a Tacoma section that differentiates packages and the available options ( color-keyed, chrome, 4x4, sport, etc.).

It won't give you performance feedback like you would receive from an owner, but it will help you narrow down the options you want and how each package fits your needs.

Then you can fill in the blanks with specific questions (or forum searches) on TW.

and yeah i want a backseat too. so is that called extended cab i guess?

i will probably buy a used one. anything i need to look for?

 

As for the color match question trd sport gives you color match door handles, mirrors, grill, and back bumper. All the other packages are the same as in color match. Also if you get a trd package you have to get the v6. As for the engines I would test drive both of them and really look at what you are going to be using it for and what would be better for you.

 

there is a back seat in the access cab and double cab
access cad has jump seats which are not comfortable but are usable
double cab has full seats in the back

For a 3" lift you can get pre-assembled coilovers and an add-a-leaf for the rear. I went with the toytec ultimate lift kit since they are pre assembled and adjustable, but there are tons of different combinations. I can't comment on the 6" I didn't consider that much lift so never did any research.

Check out the suspension section of the forum to get some ideas.

 

what are you going to use the truck for?

 

I want to use the truck for normal everyday plus some weekend and fun off road stuff.

 

This forum is absolutely packed with different information on your lift options... Search feature is your friend and you will learn more then you ever wanted to. Look around at the galleries and peoples build pages as well to see what specific suspension components look like on the truck. Welcome!

if you want to offroad at all and plan to do any aggressive offroading i would not buy a trd sport. thats paying alot extra just for color matched parts and a non functioning hood scoop... the trd offroad has the rear locker and ATRAC. 3" is not a "basic" lift. There are literally infinite combinations to do a 3" lift. If fun offroading stuff is driving on dirt roads then it really doesnt matter what truck you get or lift or tires. for 3" lift and 4" backspaced wheels you can fit 285/75/16s

I would just say there is no actual answer for your questions and its all based on personal preference... i suggest doing more research, read more of the "lift" threads, etc. Figure out the look you want and the type of offroading you want to do then plan accordingly...
