Last weekend trip we had taco tuesday.

Steak tacos with camp made pico an creamy jalapeno salsa

















The green sauce was a major hit. It was used at nearly every meal by everyone.

 

Well done. Do you camp with a blender?

 

For this trip i took a small imersion blender, after i found out it runs on my small golabs 300w battery pack



Use the battery pack to charge my M18 batteries and rhe battery pack gets charged off an 80w solar panel mounted on my roof rack.

 

Good call. I've got a battery pack as well.....but i didn't think about the immersion blender. Margaritas may be just incentive enough for my wife to want to camp.

I see jalapeños, onions, oregano?, and water. Care to share the recipe? Looks great

 

6 jalapenos
1 medium onion
1 avacodo
Couple pinches of mexican oregano (the bag fiesta brand)
Salt to taste
Dash of garlic powder

Remove stem from jalapenos
Quarter onion
Add mexican oregano and garlic

Boil until fork tender drain an save water

Add avacodo and salt.
Blend until smooth and creamy if too thick add saved water until desired thicknessis reached, salt to taste.

 

That is not always true, I have the smallest/cheapest microwave from Walmart, it draws 27A from my 12V 100Ah LiPoFe battery via a 1.1kW cheap inverter. Of course, it means you have less power to heat your meal, but for my small setup, it's enough. Sometimes we pre-cook food and keep in the fridge during the trip. On a stop, we don't need to setup the camp to eat, just heat it up and back on the road.

I assume there is some kind of heat shielding, but what about hot grease dripping down?

Love several ideas for recipes, food prep, and unconventional mods.

I have to echo @MTgirl in that my wife and I use tin foil a lot, almost to a fault. Our quick go to for veggies is a tinfoil packet with broccoli, cauliflower, and sliced carrots. We add 2 or 3 tablespoons of butter, pending on amount of veggies, then add a seasoning we like. For seasonings we’ve done Montreal Steak, old bay, or other mixed seasonings. Cook the pack for 10-15 minutes and serve once it’s cooled down enough to open the foil by hand.

Similarly we have done a BBQ chicken packet with potatoes. You add cubed chicken breast, diced tomatoes, and smother it in THICK BBQ sauce, like KC Masterpiece. It has to be thick because moisture from the chicken and potatoes will thin out the sauce as it cooks. Again, cook the packet over a fire or camp stove for about 20 minutes, flipping once or twice. If everything is prepped then it is easily a 30 min meal with a camp stove.

 

No problems thus far, well... from the grill at least haha.

 

I should have it was kinda spur of the moment. I just looked at my tailgate, realized I hate that stupid backup camera so I'm gonna remove the little shit. While I'm mid disassembly, I thought to myself "hey, u know what we be sweet? Tacos. I need a grate.." and that's how it happened.

this thread is awesome. camp cooking is awesome. i love making a good breakfast outside to get the family fueled up! when i'm overlanding (usually just my son and I) we have a minimal setup with basic gear and coleman stove. when the whole family comes along (actual camping trip) i have a big Camp Chef Explorer stove that I absolutely enjoy.

No clue how I'm just seeing this comment two decades later.. but thank you for the kind words, sir. I've been told to write a book or start a YouTube channel. Or both. Both would be short lived yet the sentence long, prison that is. I believe intellectual ability that's self driven is illegal these days and would surely be stopped by the FCC, the DEA, CBS, MSNBC, etc etc. I do love an audience, though.
