Morning folks, hump day finally. Big “ lake effect snow storm “ forecasted, could get serious, snowblower serious. Their calling for 6”-10” of wet heavy stuff, might get sporty. Love a good snow storm, y’all be safe out there, a lot of meatheads on the loose.

Good morning. I woke up a little before 5 this morning to a sleet warning on my phone, but when I walked outside it appeared to be rain, with the temp around 36.

 

So, to recap the Judas Priest & Queensryche show from last night.

With both bands, there is only 1 or 2 of the original members left. Neither band has any of their original guitarists left, and of course Geoff Tate left Queensryche several years ago.

Queensryche did a solid show. Their current vocalist has a huge vocal range, and does sound a fair bit like Geoff, at least with all the distortion of a live concert cranked to 11. I have not listened to any of their recorded music with him, so can't say how close he really may be. And with the very unique styling of the original guitarists, it was very obvious it is a different band. They opened with "Queen of the Ryche", which sounded exactly like the original band, then a couple from The Warning. They ended up playing "Empire", "Operation Mindcrime" (just the song), and "Eyes of a Stranger" from their most popular period. And a couple newer songs post-Tate. A solid show.

Priest was amazing. I am not sure about the bassist, but it may be that Rob Halford is the only original member left. Priest's guitar style was always very traditional, so other guitarists can easily replicate their sound and you can't tell the difference. Rob Halford, at 71 or 72, doesn't run all over the stage anymore, but he still rides his Harley out on stage, and he still has his full voice. There are no notes he can't hit, even at this age. Un-fcuking-real.

All in all, an excellent show. I hope to be able to hear again by the weekend.......

Unfortunately, I was not able to fit in the MRI tube. My shoulders hit right away and they couldn't get me in at all. So, now I have to see if there are any Open MRI scanners anywhere within driving distance. I may have to go all the way to Knoxville (TN) or Louisville (KY).

 

They opened with "Queen of the Ryche", which sounded 99% like the original band. Then a couple from The Warning. The only songs they played form their "middle years" (and their best albums) were "Empire", "Operation Mindcrime" (just the song, not the full album), and "Eyes of a Stranger". Then a couple from their newer albums, after Geoff Tate left. None from 'Promised Land' or 'Hear In The Now Frontier' era albums. All in all, it was a pretty good show. This is the 4th time I have seen them. Last time was in the late 90's, when they were touring behind 'Hear in the Now Frontier'. First time I saw them, was in early 1984, they were opening for Kiss on Kiss's first "no makeup" tour.
