You could put a Tile sticker inside the tailgate and hope the Police find the thief before they sell or find it themselves. We all think it can't happen to us until it does. They actually have a 3-year battery life. Never used one but it came to mind reading this post.
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tile-s...BW1lzw1m-TjASc3K6fRoCLdgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Edit: Just realized it says Bluetooth range only but I wonder if there might be other tracking devices that are cheap compared to replacing a whole tailgate. Sucks we need to worry about stuff like this.

    Sux.

I go out for a smoke every night before bed ( for my health of course ) and check the wife's car, the truck and the tail gate
to make sure it's all locked up tight. Rarely leave mine unlocked for more than 5 minutes.

If it is hard to remember to lock it, the investment in the pop-n-lock system that locks the tailgate with the keyfob or keyless entry features would be well worth it.

That’s the main reason why I installed the oem remote lock. I can easily forget to lock it manually.

There was nothing wrong with your post. His comment should have applied to the other dude, not yours.

As if someone besides the girl in the phone booth, wouldn't say something to a person taking a tailgate off in a parking lot, truly WTF...... I sure as fuck would, I hate a thief, beat him to death with said tailgate.

OEM tailgate lock was one of the first mods I did after getting my Bakflip G2 hard cover immediately after bringing home the truck. I found I was forgetting to lock the tailgate too often, so this way when I lock the doors the tailgate locks as well. Hopefully between the cover and the locked tailgate it will be enough of a deterrent to make them move on to an easier target.

OP, hope you have a low comprehensive coverage deductible and you get your repair done quickly.

I also went with the Sabelco lock.

Quick solution while I figured out the options for a locking tailgate.

Sorry this happened to you, OP.

To the OP, is it even possible the tailgate was already removed when you parked?
