You can try adding a small amount of dairy like milk, cream, yogurt or a sweetener like honey or maple syrup

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Well, our little rainy day has passed. 0.12" is always welcome. Now just going to be chilly and windy. Might see a little sun. Need to put a first fire in the insert to cure the paint this afternoon. That should be exciting! At some point, I need to replace the gas grill tanks - the cold shrunk the gas, and I have 2 empties! Not much of an agenda, I will admit....
Eagerly awaiting an actual bill on my Repatha from the Insurance RX. Because they sent me that "unexplained rebate" a while back, and changed the "Tier" to a $47 copay.....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the upcoming bill seems to be $1900! WTF? Will see what transpires.

The remote control panel for the pool stopped working.

Ten years ago went through the craziness of the Pool and Remote needing to have the same software versions, but the antenna only matches three of the w0 software revs. It took months, but I finally had everything working until the last lightning storm.

It seems Hayword went to a new-fangled phone application for the remote control. So to use our phone, it's a $3000 upgrade. I like simple, as you need internet access to program/control everything. Uh, we still lose our Spectrum about four hours a month (never sure when it will happen, but 99% uptime means about six hours a month it's down!).

I remember my parents complaining about how the changes in technology always meant more time and money. Now I say the same thing to my kids and they roll their eyes and think the time and money is all normal and worth it.

    GE Electronic Timer for $60.

    I like that solution.

Hayward has gone downhill since our pool was built in 2005. Jandi has the better equipment, but our Salt Cell is $1200. Compatible with Hayward, but Jandi means it needs to be replaced.

I'm still using an old single-speed pump. Newer ones are variable speed and much more efficient. California, with 23.9C per KWH, pays for itself. I have 9C per KWH, so I am hard-pressed to replace it based on electricity alone (I run the pump early, so it is before people need their ACs on).

The more I dig into Hayward, the more I scratch my head. In 2014 their web said, "Android coming soon" well, it's still beta as they designed it around Apple Phones. Sheesh.

I hear they've developed a new remote control toilet flush valve too. You download the ap to your zipper and everything operates by bluetooth.

    I had to laugh about a Bluetooth-controlled toothbrush. https://www.amazon.com/Blu-Toothbrush-Cordless-Toothbrushes-Waterproof/dp/B084WWQM5F

Bluetooth was a 9th-century Viking King who was fond of eating Blueberries. The Bluetooth logo is Norse "H & B" Viking King Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson

Truth is stranger than fiction! (thankfully, the toothbrush comes with an on/off button).

I built guts for our panel that have used everything from powerline carrier X systems, to plug in 24 hour stand alone timers. When the pump died a year ago, we got a Jacuzzi (but no bluetooth or App) variable DC drive. You program via a keypad on the motor. First pad didn't work, and they replaced it. Now, it's all stand alone automatic/manual/programmable. My old custom panel is just a box for the breakers, and the contactor I wired.

I don’t understand why a two speed pump motor? Last time I checked, my pool pump only had one job …Unless it has to do with startup surge, but then, that’s only once a day. Educate this old fool please?

It actually has "three" speeds. But, you can customize the RPM on any speed. DC has no startup surge - just like the DC car motor, instant torque. You use the speeds to optimize the job the motor needs to do during the day. We use the HI to make sure that the cleaner gets everywhere, LO to keep the water circulating (which is important), but not cleaning, and MID to do a little of both. During it's daily cycle, we use all three.
We have a Polaris cleaner that runs off the pool circulation, and seldom take it out.
The DC motor is probably 80% more efficient than the one it replaced, so it costs less to operate too.

    Hey... question for ya'll...

Can a cigarette lighter socket in an older vehicle be used for plugging a phone charger in?

my pool pump operates at multiple speeds also, depending on how full the leaf catcher is! When the pool sweep barely moves and the waterfall only dribbles, I know what I have to do, and ain’t on my phone ap.

You should put down a pre-emergent in the early spring. Check to see when the best time to apply in your area of the country. In the DC area it is the middle of March. This past year was a banner year for weeds due to the higher than normal rainfall.

If you are not diabetic, sugar is your best bet. You can always add more of the base ingredient of the dish as long as that is not the inducer of spice into the dish. If it is a meat, you can always scrape off the spicy coting.

Good morning. Today is music lesson and some cleaning in the garage. Shrimp Scampi for dinner.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Well, my fire building skills needed work - so I had a fire, and I didn't have a fire to cure the insert. Thought I had it going good enough to close the door after about 45 minutes of fussing to start....

    20221115_142707.jpg

but I didn't. Really needed more kindling size pieces I didn't have to get it off the floor, and things were hot and smoky enough not to pull them out, so I closed it up, told the wife I failed when she got home, and settled on the news. Then she came and asked me if I "put it out" - no, just closed it up with a tiny corner of the wood kind of burning...."well, it's burning now!"

    20221115_170201.jpg

:notsure: So, we had a nice small fire most of the night, and played with the fan and heat adjustment, and she was MUCH happier then when I spent monies on it. It stayed warm with coals overnight, making the living room nice and toasty. Can't wait until I do it right! Going to get the smallest grate I can to make it easier to start, and split some split wood later on.

That fire would be so nice, my wife would love me so much for doing that! This being California though, the neighbors might report us to the Air Quality Police. We do have a fireplace, but have never fired it up. So many things we all used to enjoy and take for granted like the smell of burning leaves in the gutter. I suppose that now we're supposed to enjoy the smell of compost?
