Just enough to look kinda cool.
But think of all the noises it could make and all the chicks it would bring you.

Me too. I just want a reliable utilitarian fun to drive off-roader with a manual gearbox and transfer case. I’d love to remain a Toyota fanboy but their 4X4s of the last 10 or so years are about as exciting as Great Value unflavored gelatin.

However, the latest Consumer Reports list of least reliable cars has me reconsidering a used FJ Cruiser instead of a new Rubicon.

And over on the most reliable list Toyota has 5 of the top 10 spots

As a former owner of 2 FJ's they're seriously underrated. I love them, and i'd get another in a heartbeat and might once i'm done with my truck (which could be anytime lol) But I agree, at least give us the option to do add on certain things from the factory, like being able to throw on 35's, locked front and rear diffs etc. But people buy toyota regardless, but I have seen a digression in quality recently with Toyota, my wife has a new rav4 and that thing is just a hunk of plastic. It makes more noise than my 2010 taco but FJ's are awesome and a good option. And if you find a manual one it has AWD :spy:

They couldn't use Road Hunter cause it'd push hunters buttons

If Toyota would bring a 79 cruiser over here I know a couple people that would be more then tempted. Diesel, solid front axle, lockers… :p but a dream is a dream.

Yes that would be awesome, we'll just have to wait to import them i guess. That's my dream vehicle for sure too.

Hey, look on the bright side. We can almost import vehicles from this century now!

Although, I think I'd rather have a 25yo 1980s Land Cruiser than a 25yo 2000s Land Cruiser. All the new electronic stuff def doesn't age as well as the old school slider HVAC controls, manual windows, etc.

I agree, there's a certain icon factor with the older cruisers as well that I like better but the 79 series seems to be a good medium for me. Not too much tech, more utilitarian than luxury.

I think most are still crank windows and all hard plastic interiors.

I've been surprised to see some FJs that are reasonably priced considering years/miles on them. I just can't get around the lack of rear view... but otherwise I'd be inclined to get one.

Yeah i've been looking a little bit too and the market is getting a little better, they were at their peak last year i sold mine for a pretty good profit. They'll hold their value well obviously cause of the lack of inventory. Yeah the rear view isn't great, i've always had a camera on mine which helps a lot. Blind spots aren't great either but having blind spot mirrors helps a lot and you get used to it after a while.
