**Seeking Mechanic Recs and other regional tips for parts/etc**

Hello. I'm new the Detroit area. Just drove my 98 4x4 extra cab 2.7l 5spd here from the west coast. Everything is still pretty much factory spec on the truck (although i reaallly wish i had done and add-a-leaf before i left).

I try to do as much of my own work as possible but time/space/and tools can limit that.

I have been recommended "The Mack Garage" located at 8125 Mack Ave. Detroit, MI 48214.
I'm going there tomorrow to have a wheel bearing issue diagnosed/fixed.

After my long drive, my poor truck with about 230k miles is showing a variety of issues. The order of urgency to be addressed is likely:

    1. Front Pass Wheel bearing
    2. Manual Trans/Clutch issues (likely need a new clutch but could go into more details about symptoms if you're curious)
    3. Loss of power/Top Speed (will accelerate past 65 but only to about 80 and doesn't like to do it)
-I hoping that this will be addressed when I replace the throttle position sensor and clean the MAF sensor but it could also be related to a very worn out clutch.
I have popped a code for the TPS and the idle has been more erratic so fingers crossed.
    4. Drive Shaft balance
4.5 Steering bushings but I'm going to do that first chance I'm free.

Any recommendations ESPECIALLY for a reputable transmission shop would be greatly appreciated.
Any and all other regional advice relating to the mechanical needs of my Tacoma are appreciated.

Thanks for your help and I hope you enjoy this winter.

before I left on the trip, she would hit 100 pretty easily.

Had it looked at today. The guy at the shop said it sounded like clogged CATS. so im looking into that. I just had it smogged in california which is good for 2 years so putting cheap ones on it wouldn't bother me too much. I know there's a ton of info on deletion and CAT types but right now I'm attempting to be as economical as possible.

If you had clogged a cat, you would have a CEL.

I ain't buying that you have bad cat.

Yup. And the only thing that clogs cats is an engine running rich. They don't actually wear out over time.

Which could be a factor maybe with a faulty TPS or something in the intake/throttle body.
Or something else I haven't thought of yet.

Im just gonna chip at it. easiest/cheapest first...

If you unplug your MAF sensor, the truck will go back to preset fuel mapping. If your symptoms improve after that, you'll know you need to address the MAF sensor. Cleaning it likely won't hurt though.

Throwing the feelers out there… Anyone interested in doing a “cars & coffee” type TW meet and greet either Thanksgiving or Black Friday?

I know @rimfire7 already talked about a snow run (which would still be awesome) but maybe I can entice more with a lower commitment type thing

I will have to be rolled or carted out of the house on Thanksgiving - oink oink. Friday....mom is here. She probably would be about showing off her ancient tundra but attention span will give out quickly after that.

Putting together a Michigan only sale for my shop art signs.

These say "Toyota Service" in Japanese.

    $50 shipped for painted signs.

$45 for an unpainted version. (1 available)

$90 shipped for the signs with chrome tread plate backing.

Here is the link to my add for the info in detail.

Hello everyone, I’m looking for a shop in SE Michigan that does regear. I’m somehow having a hard time finding one that works on Tacomas.

I found Expedition Vehicle Outfitters in Fowler but they said to budget for about $4,000 to regear my truck to 5.29, seems a little steep.

Also looking for a place that does a cab mount chop or maybe even a cab mount relocation.

I’m willing to drive a few hours if it saves me some serious money.

$4000? If that includes parts, that's pretty good

That's a horrible idea. What time?
The shops down here are running between $1600-1800 per axle including parts.
